Anybody use the CRKT sharpener yet

Seems like a rather ingenius idea. Not too sure how well it would work for applying a razor sharp edge. A sharpener that doesnt let you clearly see the sharpening angle? Seems iffy. But regardless of whether it works well or not I'm sure it will sell.

It's more retard proof, but less versitile and I have no idea how you do alternating strokes to remove the last bits of burr

interesting. keeping the angle is not that easy on the sharpmaker. eyeballing makes me cross-eyed :p

I like the fact that it has only one smooth round rod for both bevels, just spin the other side, slide the knife in and stroke.

the only question is that do they have different grits and a diamond rod? :D

My first thought was how long before the guide wears from sliding up and down the rod and your angle control goes south???

good point. but tis all speculation up till now.....someone please try and give feedback! :D

There are a couple of immediate drawbacks.

1) the rods provide a high pressure contact point and thus tend to make burr removal problematic, the flats on the triangle rods are much more efficient.

2) you can't change the angle such as by tilting the Sharpmaker to hone a 15/25 edge which allows you to sharpen without extensive profiling.

It also lacks the tremendous versatility of the Sharpmaker which does many other tools, works as a benchstone, hand rod sharpener, etc. but is significantly cheaper.
