Saw a new Fiskars hatchet at Home Depot today and it looked interesting so I checked the website and it seems like they have some new brush clearing gear. http://www2.fiskars.com/Products/Gardening-and-Yard-Care/Machetes-and-Billhooks

I kinda want to play around with that machete axe.

I haven't used them but I'd be game to try them.

In general I've found combination tools not to perform as well as individual tools. The handles look comfortable on these. Fiskars steel is OK, though a little spotty on the heat treat. I expect the machete-axe would not do the work of a good long machete. I think the hook would get in the way. But we tend to have a lot of vining plants up here. It might work well in some other climate.

The handles look ok, if a little bulky at the top end. I suspect that the hook on the combo machetes would be most useful for limbing work. I think the sweet spot would be a little low on those blades relative to the swell of the tip and cause odd dynamics.
