Although I like cocobolo and other woods a lot, I still prefer good black ebony on slipjoints, like that seen on good antique slipjoints. I haven't seen any modern maker that uses ebony. Does anyone know of any?

I have a couple slabs of ebony that I've been saving to put on something. Maybe I'll put them on a slipjoint like you said. That sounds like it would make a pretty knife. -chris

You've really cut me deep. Good ebony on a well-executed stockman or sowbelly stockman, or maybe even a two-blade teardrop jack... Too bad my budget just took a big hit, or I might take up a discussion with you about it. I think there is nothing better than solid black ebony contrasting with bright nickel silver bolsters. Of all my antique slipjoints, the ebony handles seem to have weathered carry and use better than other woods, too. I also have some very nice ebony blocks that I want to use to get a couple of knives rehandled (to replace some cheap laminated wood or plastic).
