I In no way support the chrades made by taylor but sometimes there has been some discussion about the comparison between the two. I said I would never own one but I came across a china 55otg,53otg,5otg for a couple of bucks nib and I still felt like I got ripped off, but anyway curiosity killed the cat and I bought it for a reason. I will happily ship this knife to any of you guys who would just like to check it out side by side with a real shcrade. I'll even pay the shipping to ya just pay the shipping to the next guy if someone else would like to check it out. Keep in mind Im in no way saying they are as good or better I would just like to see what everyone else thinks who hasent gotten to hold one. All I know Is Im glad Ive got a usa old timer in my pocket. And there is a reason they sell them for under $10 each. Either way if I ship it to ya feel free to use it sharpen it or even try to bust it, I dont care I thought it would be a good group experiment, and I dont even expect to get the knives back just pass them around. Bad Idea? Maybe but I looked them over and Im done with them they just dont belong in my house. - JOEL

I wouldn't mind checking one out. I'm happy to send it to the next man on the list. Check your PM's.

Gradall5200, I just got the knife. First thing I noticed is fit and finish is terrible compared to my USA Schrades. Lots of blade play from side to side. The blade is no where near sharp. As I continued to look it over, I noticed that the front side of the blade is not even ground. It is sorta like chisel ground, but not really. It really is sad to see this. Almost makes me cry to think that nearly 100 years of knife making has ended with this.

If you wanna see the new Schrade for yourself, email me your address and i will send it to you.

It may be a moot point, but this Chinese knife made for Taylor and stamped "SCHRADE" is not a Schrade knife. It is a Chinese copy or fake, but not a Schrade. Schrade's history ended in 2004. The quality of fit-finish-function you report of this knife pretty well matches what I found on the copies of other Schrade patterns which I have examined. Is this knife marked with the country of origin? Can you post pictures of it? Is the sheath leather or reconstituted leather fibers?

Hardly seems worth wasting postage on, imho. I've seen plenty of the Taylors in hardware stores, a couple cases where they still have authentic Schrade USA knives priced for less.

Well, it is good for the same reason I examined and reviewed several of them. It helps to know the differences between the real Imperial Schrade knives and the Chitaylor knives. And it validates general opinions by direct comparisons. I'd like to se an indepth review of it with side by side photos of a Schrade of that pattern. It is one thing to think and say something about a knife you haven't seen and held, quite another to prove it both in detailed words and in living color (Disney made me say that).

yea I wasnt trying to push this knife on anyone or waste postage I was just trying to save everyone from ever buying one just to see them side by side. mainly because before I picked this one up I had never really checked one out. by the way I wasnt impressed with the knife at all. Maybe wildcat can do a side by side comparison and post some pics. joel

Not dissn you Joel. I appreciate your interest. I KNOW where your loyalties are. I'm just disgusted with the charades that go on with all of the sellers trying to disguise them as Schrades.

Oh, it isn't just the Schrade and Chitaylor sellers. Hang around the Levine forum here some and you will see some doozies. He spends a lot of time and energy educating people to tell the difference before they lay down the green. The same as we do here.

It isn't that different in the construction business I am in. I do a lot of work on pools I was outbid on. Beat by a grand on 24 grand and the customers didn't get a 12 grand pool. "We build the best and service the rest".

Hal, I didint think you meant anything by that I was pretty much just agreeing with ya. It makes me sick everytime I click on a chitaylor on ebay to find out its a counterfeit. and some poor guy like me 4 or 5 years ago thinks hes getting a good old knife and ends up with something he will use to level up a wobbly table or something like that. I wish they would start making all the chrades purple with pink dots or something so I could go right by them on ebay. Joel

I accidentally picked up a UH897 on Ebay a couple of months back. Thought it was a US made. As a matter of fact I wrote the guy and told him that I would keep the knife as a beater but he should really consider being more specific in his listings since there are quite a few collectors out there. All I got for my trouble was negative feedback.
Anyway has anyone compared the USA made 897's to the Chinese. I really could not tell much difference. However there is this one quality I can't get around. "MADE IN CHINA". :jerkit:

I would be happy to take pics and stuff. This is a 550TG, I don't have a USA version of that model. It is stamped Schrade on the tang and the model number and china on the back side. It had the old timer plate on the handle. The box it came in says Schrade Old Timer and all the other logos. One little teeny tiny line of text on the small end of the box says Taylor Brands, Made in china. There was no sheath with this knife.

The thing that got me the most is that one side of the blade does not even have a bevel ground in it. Is this the way Schrade USA made them?

Made in Taylor Brands NEW Schrade factory.
SINCE I AM AN AUTHORIZED SCHRADE DISTRIBUTOR, YOU WILL ALSO RECEIVE A RECEIPT AND SCHRADES
. LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY.

An American company known as Taylor Brands recently bought Schrade USA. The purchase included all of Schrades machining and honing equipment, though it’s since been transferred to an overseas factory. The quality of each new Schrade product is on par with the meticulously crafted blades they’ve always been known for. I have been selling Schrade products for nearly twenty years, and I confidently believe that you’ll be pleased with the quality of their new generation of knives.

This guy is hawking a "CLEARANCE" on the Chitaylor 15OT knives for "only" $22.80 and $7.50 shipping.
