I've stuck three pix in here for those newer folks who may not have seen them before. These are scenes from Bishwakarma Puja 2000 when I was in Nepal.
One shows Sgt. Karka after he just successfully beheaded the sacrificial goat -- grim determination. Another shot shows Sgt. Karka giving me a tika -- the Bishwakarma blessing -- that's Ramasore with his back to us. And, the group shot of the kamis chowing down on goat tarkari. In this shot Ram is the kid who shows up as a half person on the right.
Ram's story is the classic example of giving a hook and line rather than a fish. If he succeeds in his studies this kid will come back to Nepal and care for thousands of sick and needy folks and will insure that his own family is cared for in their old age. We've got him this far and I don't want to quit now so I'm going to send him a few dollars for his living expenses. If anybody else wants to kick in a few bucks send a check, paypal, or buy something off the shopping site and tag it "Ram".
I've included my last email to Ram and his response.
Hello Ram:
Many thanks for staying in touch.
It looks like you have your work cut out for you for awhile but it will be worth it. Study hard and do your best. I know you can make it.
Your father and family will be very proud of you and it is our hope that you will be able to care for them in their old age. All this makes me very happy.
Pala has been here in the US for a visit. He was here for about 6 or 7 weeks but returned to Nepal last week. The shop does not do well when he is gone.
Well, we are also busy here so I must sign off for now but I will try to answer every email that you send. I know it must be pretty lonely for you in Latvia. Are there any other Nepalis around?
Blessings and best of luck in your effort,
Bena

As you know bishwokarama cast is very backward .And of course,I will take care of my parents. As you know,by simple Army service and khukuri business (ed. my bold),my father afford my tuition fee for this year. And for living and fooding expenses ,I am trying to find job.Still I could not able to get ,I hope I will get job in summer vacation.
I am the only boy to pass grade 12 in science .And I am the only boy to study medicine in my locality. My aim is really high, and its really hard for me to achieve the success. But I am ouite determined to get the sucess.
I have one nepali friend here in latvia.I am living with him .He is helping a lot for fooding as well as living.
I become first in my group. And medicing is really very hard .In 24 hour ,we have to study 16 hour.
I pray to the god for your good business.
And please take care of your health.
And DEAR DIDI ,a very sweet rememberance from the core of the heart.
