Anybody watch Game of Thrones?

I haven't watched the HBO series (it's on my list of things to do), but I am a fan of the books. I just wish it didn't take 2+ years for the next book to be released.

Yep, I love the show and read the first book but realized the show was pretty much word for word so I haven't bothered reading the others. Very different from Tolkien's level of detail, which I miss from Martin's writing. I will say that I love the fact that no one is safe, ever!

I have watched the first two seasons, and read books 3, 4 and 5 of the series... so I know where the story is going.

By the way, book 5 (A Dance With Dragons) is a bit disappointing.

I particularly like Tyrion's performance. :)

I agree. I really did not think they were going to be able to cast that roll right.

I have read the books, but am not caught up on the show. I just wait till it is on Blue Ray, and marathon watch it!

Well, I have noticed ONE discrepancy in Dinklage's performance. In the books Tyrion waddles... in the show, Dinklage is much more graceful in his movement. I prefer the non-waddling performance to the portrayal in the books.

I have read the first book and midway through the second. I felt the first season was a complete rendition of the first book, where the second just had enough differences to keep me interested. I'm rooting for a shared throne of Tyrion and Daeneryus. It is such a bad ass show, really hope HBO does Stephen Kings Gunslinger series, Think they have proven beyond a doubt that they can do justice too it

The last episode of Season 3 is what caused bittermanbrewing to have apoplexy. The poor man bore witness to the Red Wedding.

Huge fan. I read the books a while ago then reread them all when the forth book came out. I have to say that the fourth and fifth books were a let down. Too many unnecessary directions. I even have autographed 1st/1st of all the books.

The series is great and while there are a ton of differences, they all work very well. If I didn't know what was coming the last episode would have put me over the edge.

I have heard some time ago that Ron Howard was going to bring Roland Deschane and crew to life. I hope it happens. Another great series but it too had many let downs along the way.

My experience of adaptations of Stephen King's works is full of disappointments. I doubt that any transaltion of the Gunslinger series will be worth the effort. As an aside to that, have those interested in the series gotten The Wind Through the Keyhole? King describes it as volume 4.5 in the sries. Personally, I see little reason for its inclusion.

As for Game of Thrones, I too was greatly disappointed in books 4 & 5... but most especially 5. The characters have lost their ways.

I have been let down by many adaptions of Stephen kings books too. Some have worked well, then others are complete disappointments. I have not read volume 4.5 of the series. I saw no point in trying to go back and read it after I already was past that point. It would be a difficult series to make and translate the stories, but was hopeful when saw Ron Howard attached as the director and rumors of Deschain to be played by Javier Bardem.

I'm on the fence if I should finish the GoT books. I've heard they loose some traction and not worth reading the huge volumes that they are. I generally get diacouraged whenever I see books going well past 500 pages, yet alone seven epic length books.

Don't get me wrong... I read them voraciously. But I was frustrated throughout books 4 and 5. Here's why (no spoilers included, I hope).

Books 4 & 5, according to the author, chronicle the same piece of history, just through two different sets of characters. Book 4 mostly follows the action in Kings Landing, and book 5 shows mostly what is going on in the more far flung regions.

In both books we watch well established characters devolve into lesser characters. But worse, what we learn in book four about that devolution colors what we're interested in tracking in book 5, and it takes ponderously long chapters to get to the point where what we know is once again relevant.

It was a frustrating forumaltion. I wish the author had just kept the books moving through history in one thread instead of splitting the threads.

They really need to combine books 4 and 5 into one season.

I highly recommend Wind Through The Keyhole. It's a good story and another good story within that story. I like it when Roland sits down around the proverbial camp fire shares a good tale.

It has been quite some time since I checked into the Dark Tower screen adaptation but I originally read that it was going to be a strange but interesting combination of theater releases and TV mini series. Any updates on that?

I can't think of many of King's books that I have missed. Anyone read 1963? No other book has transported me so deeply to such a nostalgic time. Like a lot of King's work, there was an Act that seemed more contrived than the rest (in this case the third Act) but the rest of the story more than makes up for it.
