Gonna try and make something out of this steel and would appreciate any tips on heat treat; temps for both hardening and tempering, etc...

Would this steel be best quenched in Parks 50, or is that oil too fast for this steel? I have Parks AAA, too.

Danbo - I have two blades in CruForge V, worked with it for the first time recently. I don't think Parks will be too fast for it. Enjoy the hand sanding.

Dan Farr has -the- heat treat info for it. Also speak with Matt Gregory on this forum. If you would like, I can ask Dan to get in touch with you, but I think you guys already know each other.

If it's more difficult to hand sand than W2.....It's gotta be great stuff...!

Actually...Scott Devanna recommends soaking at 1500f for 15-20 min...Oil
quenching......says freezing isn't needed....temper 400f +.

I'd strongly suspect that marquenching would very benneficial.

I have had good results austenizing at 1510-1515 F. for 10-15 minutes and tempering at 410. It is made to harden in just about any oil, I use AAA. It does tend to decarb more heavily than other oil-hardening steels, in my experience, deep enough to fool you if you try a quick file test. If it feels soft, give it a few more strokes.
