Anyon use use petroleum jelly on stripped blades?

Noticed the BK11 picking up some slight surface rust even though I put some Tuff Cloth on it. I'm thinking of how they stored metal blades back in WWII with grease and such...So I tried putting a thin coat of Vaseline on the blades. Anyone else tried this?

Yes, I know there are other things, including mineral oil. I just want to know if anyone has used PJ, as it will stay on the blade longer.

Ethan has said when knife ship from the factory they have PJ on the knife

The only problem I foresee is petroleum can degrade certain plastics like the sheath liner.

sounds like a good idea to me, I have a BUNCH of small containers (like 60) of cosmoline I picked up at a flea market.. I'm sure PJ is pretty close to this stuff but I'm no chemist and I'm sure cosmoline isn't used for chapped lips etc.

Army Surplus sells these containers for like .50 or something.. I've never used it for knives and I'm curious to see how this fares with sheaths/handles and such..
