Do you have a pair of boots you just love, tell us why, and maybe add a pic. I love boots, hikers and workboots, even cowboy boots. Anyone ever have a pair of custom made boots?

I still have my issue boots from Mexican military service in 1975, not long ago they got new heels, they are in good shape and still fit me fine, I wont say I just love them but they do have some cool factor, black with fancy white lacing.

I too like hikers but my current favorites are a pair of Charreria boots (The Mexican cowboy style) one piece uppers, deeply oiled leather and follow the Charro Association norm, tough and comfortable.

Yeah, I generally prefer boots to regular shoes. My every day boots are Redback slipons, but I also have a pair beat-up Redwings laying around, and my formal occasion footwear is a pair of black kangaroo Luccheses. Can I just say I love kangaroo hide? That stuff is tougher than I would have believed possible.

Don Luis, do you know where I can see a picture of Charro Association-approved boots? I've been to a charreada or two when I was a kid, but I'd like to see how the boots differ from my Luccheses.

That I know of, only pages in Spanish. Some time ago someone pointed to a site in Australia with similar boots, interesting...

You can see some botines here, and browse around to see some more about the attire.

This is the official site of the association:

http://www.nacionaldecharros.com/

This is where I usually buy Charro and Cowboy things (clothing, boots, belts, hats, etc.) the site shows very little stuff though:

http://www.laherradura.com/

Edited, just found another place on line:

http://www.el-charro.net/calzado.html

Edited again, found that Australian site:

So, this thread got me thinking about boots again. I have a real nice pair, I think that they are out of business now, but the brand name is "South West". Anyway, I always used to think that Danners were the best, until I just went to the site! Total crap! In less than a year they have gone from a quality boot to Timberland quality (for those of you who remember, Timberland used to be a top quality shoe maker until they caught on, now they sell the name and make the shoe's in Asia.)

It really is amazing what money does to people. As soon as the big bucks come rolling in you change your level of quality and just let your name carry you, for a while, until everyone figures out that you are a phoney.

I have lots of boots but my favourites now are all elastic sided ones. I've got a Redback safety boot that is light and very comfortable. Although i think you can't resole so when it's done...it's done. I've also got RM Williams boots that i like very much. 1 piece leather upper and really great quality.

For hiking or long distance walks round town, the Meindl Borneo:

For work (I'm a retired LEO) or shorter walks, the Danner Acadia 21210:

For hiking in very wet conditions, the Gore-Tex Karrimor KSB (mine are now 8 years old, so this is a newer version):

just out of curriosity.. do you guys still wear boots with your suits? I thought it would be nice to be able to run .. be a lot better than running with loafers.

WHites, Nicks, LImmer, Drews boots are all top quality, handmade (Damn expensive!), even in some cases made to order boots. THey have a variety of different styles and price ranges. If you are in the market for a qulaity piece of gear check out one of these manufaturers. I have a pair of made to order Logger/Smokejumper 14" elktan Whites. I love them! First and only pair of shoes that were 'broken' in from the momnet I received them in the mail.

Ya, I'm a boot junkie.
The boots I love most?
It's a tossup.
My best boots for sure are my custom Limmers. I had to wait 4 years for them, they fit me perfectly, the breakin was hell but they are too damn nice to beat up.
But the ones I think I love the most are an old pair of Scarpa SLs that have been beaten and bruised to an incredible degree. They've walked in the high arctic, the antarctic and various places in between. They're probably the only real souvenir I have for most of my trips in the last 8 years because everything else, including knives, i changed from trip to trip, or at least for a few. But i dragged these boots along for almost all of them. They are now custom molded to my feet.
But I love each pair I have.

Here's another vote for Danner Acadias (just got a nice shine :p )

And I'm breaking out my Sorel Conquests for the snowstorm that's hitting the NE tomorrow

I'm a big fan of Timberland. I've had great luck with them.

For cold and snow, Sorel all the way!

Chippewa Arctic 50!

I wear these boots year round with wool socks. The wool socks and sheepskin lining wick away all the moisture so it's they are very comfortable. I really like the all leather design of these boots, they are EXTREMELY durable. The only thing is that they are heavy but you get used to them fairly quickly. There is also little rocker in the sole, but that's not really much of an issue. Break-in takes a while but they are really quite comfortable out of the box, just stiff in the ankle. They can be had in any number of widths and I'm a triple E so I appreciate that. I've had a pair of these boots for fifteen years and can say they are a very high quality boot.
