Hey folks,
I will be in Washington DC oct 18th and 19th for an award ceremony for
work. Ill have time on the 18th and maybe some on the 19th to do some
walking around and stuff. Are there any places in DC that might have
any supplies for knife making? Bolts, maybe a good selection of
exotic woods, sanding belts or any thing else you might think of? I'm
taking my wife and daughter so we will be doing some obligatory
tourist type things as well.

They are putting us up at the Marriott Wardman Park. We will be limited to
walking, the metro and cabs, not getting a rental car. Anyone have
any suggestions on good food that is cheap, if there is such a thing
in DC. Maybe the hole in the wall that has really good..... whatever.
Even if it is not in DC, but as long as it is pretty close to a metro
stop.

Not sure where we will be going while there in DC, maybe air and space or natural history museum, probably going by the capital building at least.
Thanks for any suggestions offered
Rob

There are no knife suppy stores in this area, although there is a Woodcrafters Store in Springfield, Va, that has a nice supply of exotic wood which is reasonably priced. Probably too far away for you however. As for places to visit, the Hoover FBI building is cool. You get to see all the Al Capone, John Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd era guns, pictures, etc. The Vietnam memorial is an awesome place as well, and so is the WW2 war memorial. There's a lot of neat places to eat, just depends on what you want. I'd suggest just asking around when you get here, I'm sure peple will be able to recommendsome good places close by. If no one can help, you can't go wrong going into Georgetown. Lots of stores which will appeal to the wife and kids, and some super places to eat. Good luck, have fun...

Regards,

Dave

Thanks Dave
I remember Georgetown being a pretty cool place (25 yrs ago). Someone also suggested an area called Adams Morgan (think that is what they called it). Is that a decent area to go into?

It's expensive. Up and to the left in Maryland area.

Does have nice restaurants.

The best sight-seeing is in DC, however. I might also add the sometimes-forgotten Jefferson Memorial. I also enjoy the Museums (Natural History, Air and Space).

If you're brave, you could drop by the White House (visitor center, anyway).
