Anyone break a PM2 tip?

I have the Paramilitary 2 and the tip is damn near a hypodermic needle! Mine is the S35VN Sprint Run. I'm concerned about the the tip, there just isn't much meat there like the Manix 2 XL. Has anyone had any issues with a broken tip?

Thanks!

Yes ...it fell on my wood floor as I was taking it out of m pocket, it was a s30v model

Dropped mine on concrete and broke 1/16 inch off the tip. My fault, not the knife's. I have two other Para2s and resharpened the broken tip on my S30V model after it broke and have not had any problems since then.

Nope...never snapped the tip off of any one of my knives, but I have yet to drop one onto my tile floor and I use the screwdriver end of my Leatherman to pry with rather than the tips of any of my knives. It could happen, but in roughly 10 years it hasn't happened yet, and I use my knives every day, and not lightly. It's all about having the right tool for the job, though accidents do happen, and I have had my SharpMaker stones fall off my desk and chip at the ends from the impact with the tile floor. Never a knife though.

No spydercos..I got a skyline and took it out of box the knife fell on the carpet from around a foot and the tip broke off.

While flicking it open, the tip hit onto a metal speaker and it broke off. The needle thin tip has its advantages though.

While the PM2 tip isn't the bluntest in the market, I wouldn't have it any other way ;)

Some extra care may be needed (compared to blunt tip titanium "hard use" hammer knives) but if you use a utility sized folding knife like the PM2 as intended... Then you'd appreciate its advantages in EDC tasks enough to consider this a positive feature. I've read complaints over sharp tips over the years... See how the Delica/Endura's come blunter compared to their predecessors... Which I personally think was the wrong move, but I guess enough complaints coming from people who 1.dont appreciate a fine tip 2. Use knives as a prying tool or a hammer that Spyderco had to make the change. Hope the PM2 stays just the way it is.

Also, I suppose you could round it out while sharpening to make it blunter.

I do appreciate it when the maker opts to leave more steel on the blade. I can always remove some of it if I want, but I'm never going to be able to add more back on.

Yeah, I do give my knives sharper tips. Recent example is a Ritter mini Grip, I did not like its (purpose built) blunt tip. All my Endura/Delica4/Salt users I ground the spine to resemble the original blade style.

Goes both ways though, you can thicken the tip as well but unfortunately will lose some length.

I like the sharp tip on the para and on the military.

I carry my ZT 301 when I don't want the sharp tip.

yeah it happens... but getting it fixed happens too =] ... knives are tools not jewelry imho

God forbid that ever happen. I snapped a few Endura tips in my time (not the same obviously) but I was very abusive with them. I'd probably break down and cry if I ever snapped my PM2. For real.

Sure have, my fault though. I was using it and set it down for a moment and bumped it off the table. Went tip first into the concrete below. Only knife I have ever done that to, hopefully the last. I was able to fix it up but I am still pissed at myself.

I've felt the same way about my Ritter Grip. How did you go about changing the tip?

Mine fell off the table and lost its point.
DMT stoned new point back on it.
Not it's 2mm shorter

Not on a military but I finally saw what it took to snap the tip on my MT19. After much abuse and being bent back into place a couple of times, I was using my knife to pry a frozen window open. Don't know if it was the cold, the work hardening, or me just being an idiot but about 1/10" broke off. I don't have a grinder so it's going to have to go back into a drawer until I get my next mule. This one was very, very impressive. Very impressive. I don't see a knife like the Bradley Bowie ever breaking unless someone goes out of their way to do it on purpose.
