I have a BK1 and love it. I use it camping many times in place of a hatchet to make firewood. I often baton it to split the wood. My question is does anyone else use it this way? And have any of you that do use it that way broken the knife? I keep hearing horror stories about breaking the knife by batoning it. Has anyone here actually broken a Becker doing this? Broken another knife doing this? I should point out that I only baton it with wood, never with a stone or another piece of metal if anyone wonders.

Overall

The Becker Combat Bowie was found to be a very solid performing large knife over a wide range of applications. It sets a fine standard for its price range. The cutting ability was high and the chopping performance solid. The only real functional drawback was the low prying ability. The grip is a little slick however and the holes abrasive / irritating, a little grip tape solves both problems.

The grip can also be corrected with the Micarta Scale; I have them on all of my Beckers. I haven’t pried with my knives but normal out door activity has never been a problem. I use my BK1 as an all round tool. As mentioned in other threads I do not have a BK6 Machete, so I use Brute in that fashion too. The Brute does not have the weight behind it or the swing length, but it works if called upon. And on top of all that it looks very impressive!

The BK1 is a little thicker than the BK9 .250 vs .210 but the BK9 has a greater Girth.
