Anyone carry a Mcusta Tactility?

This thread is for my father, who likes to collect knives but doesn't like to spend time on the computer. He's interested in the Mcusta Tactility and I don't have much experience with Mcusta to help him out. I have held a Take and Basic Folder and believe the fit and finish to be really good. But those had thumb studs, whereas the Tactility has a hole much like the Spyderco knives. So not sure about easy of opening, etc.

I toyed with the others when I was in Japan and they didn't have pocket clips. So also not sure about the clip on the Tactility.

Anyway, any input would be great. I have a fairly good understadning of the quality of Mcusta knives, just no experience carrying them. So any downsides let me know.

Thanks.

Lev

I don't have the Tactility (I have other Mcustas though) but examined them a few times already. The one-hand opening goes very smoothly and the clip is perfect for deep carry. A seriously good EDC that looks more tactical than most Mcustas.
FYI there are also lovely damascus variants (that is, the Mcusta approach to damascus with a VG10 core and softer layers around it, not forged the traditional way) of the knife but these have thumbstuds.
I'm sure that your dad will not be disappointed.

yeah I mentioned the damascus blade to him, but he didn't have much interest in it. But he is definitely for deep-pocket carry. For a blade over 3.5 inches, it doesn't look very big though.

I had one and sold it when I was reducing my collection. It's a fine quality knife that carries like a smaller one. The deep carry clip makes it look like a fancy pen in your pocket.

The only reason I sold mine is because I'm not a liner lock fan. Other than that it's great. Here's mine alongside a Spyderco Volpe:

I have a Corian scaled Tactility. Awesome knife. Fantastic F&F. very deep carry and a very easy knife to operate one handed.

I have a Black Paper Micarta one and I liked it so much I bought elkins45's from him on the exchange.

It is one of if not the best carrying knives I own. The clip looks nice on the pocket (very unassuming) and the pocket draw and return is very smooth. It fit's nice in the hand and it opens very smoothly. Mcusta knows how to do VG-10 and the blade shape is very practical. It's just a great all around knife.

Hey, that knife looks familiar!

IMO the Mcusta is tied with the Spyderco deep wire clip as the best pocket clip available.

Yeah I thought the F&F was great on the Take and Basic Folder when I held them. I was impressed.

Reeek...my father is interested in the black micarta, but I keep mentioning the Corian scales. I think I read a thread where you had both at one time and sold the micarta one. Any reason you chose the Corian one for other than just looks?

I had three once. The Corian just had some intangible mojo out of the three even though all three looked and worked perfectly. There was just something about it . . . But with the Tactility model, I do prefer the Corian over the Micarta though. It's works really well as a scale material. The smooth feeling satin finish on the Corian lends a really good grip actually. Lot's of surface area between the scales and your hand and fingers.

I own a Tactility with Cocobolo scales, and as others have said, it is a fine knife to be had on all counts. I myself have never carried mine (safe queen) but have done a pocket fit test and the clip on mine seemed to be off-set from the knive a bit too much so as to not clasp tightly to the mouth of the pocket for adequate security. Dunno, maybe I got the rare Q.C. failure?

I thought the same thing about mine. I think because I was so use to knives I'd have to yank from my pocket. I found that it is tight enough to keep it secure without being over tight as long as I dont do inverted jumping jacks.;)

So it appears mine isn't atypical. Comforting to know that it isn't a flaw, but an intentional design feature. I'm sure I'd get accustomed to it if I chose to EDC with it. But that's one of the shortcomings in my knife collection; I have such a limited knife budget that when I find a quality knife to buy I have to settle for keeping it safed away rather than actually using it. Ideally I'd love to be able to buy 2 of everything: one for carry and one for keeping... only managed to do that with but a few in my collection. :(

I have owned (and still do own) several Mcusta folders, and they are a great value for the money. I think that he would be pleased.

Thanks for all of your opinions. Yeah he's definitely convinced now on the knife, just trying to decide what handle scales. I may have to get one myself:D
