Anyone carry a Victorinox Alox Cadet?

I have looked at several alox models, and I think the Cadet might suit my needs the best. I really like the Tinker, and have a Classic on all my keychains, but the scales get trashed so fast I thought the alox might hold up a little better. Does anyone carry a Cadet? If so, how does it compare to a Tinker or other SAKs you have carried? Who would you recommend (other than ebay) for SAK purchases? Thanks in advance!!!

You might check the dealers on the Bladeforums Exchange forum, Felinevet on Ebay, Amazon, and your local Scheels (or similar Sporting Goods store). I just got my 1st Victorinox Cadet II and I'm LOVING it. It's similar to the Cadet but it has a small blade instead of the finger nail file. The Cadet (84mm) is a bit smaller than Tinker and the Soldier (91mm) but it's a hard worker. Here are some comparison photos of the Cadet II next to the Soldier"

I really like it. In fact I just received a second from felinevet (thanks by the way ). Not too bulky, alox holds up much better than cellidor, classy, and covers just about all my edc needs, especially for office/urban environment. I tried an alox bantam but found it too thin for my hands. The cadet is just big enough for use and small enough to disappear or at least sit comfortably in the pocket; sometimes I even have to double check to see if it's there.

Since I have its classic alox little brother on my keychain, I didn't need another file, so I, too, prefer an extra blade. Plus, the alox classic has scissors, smaller blade, and an extra screwdriver which are always handy as well. Good edc combo which thanks to the thin alox does not take up much more room than a couple of keys would.

Besides showing wear, the cellidor models I have usually end up sans toothpick (never used) and tweezers (seldom used).

However, as many have posted before, buy what you plan to carry and try to determine what you really need. If you're like me, you'll end up buying a whole bunch, because they're cool/neat, inexpensive and fine quality, but will only really "need" two or three at most or maybe 9 or 10 (LOL).

I have given several as gifts , the owners are happy with them .Im thinking of getting one as a lite EDC .

I have a Wenger Standard Issue, which is the same as the Cadet but with a bail for a lanyard. I carry it more than my others, and find that it is the perfect balance between utility and minimalism.

I have a cadet 2 that I've played with and carry on and off. It's a nice knife, but it's close enough in size to my Wenger SI that it gets nudged out alot of the time. It's just enough thinner in the grip that the wenger is more comfortable to use for any heavy duty cutting. It's kind of an in between size to me, so my own feeling is that if you can carry a cadet, you can carry a Wenger SI and have a sturdier knife. In case you can't tell, I love the Wenger SI, and team it up with a classic for my most often carried edc. To keep the classic from getting trashed by the keys I made a little leather pouch sheath that goes on the keyring. It takes the whole knife right up to the split ring, and it can be pulled out by the ring or just squeeze the bottom of the sheath like a tube of toothpast, and the classic slides up to where you can get a hold of it easy.

The cadet is kind of like a 3 inch barrel revolver. If I have to conceal it I want a 2 inch, if carried open I take a 4 inch. So where does the mid size end up?

If they made the alox scales just a tad thicker it would be more attractive to me. The recruit, which is the same knife in red plastic, feels better to me. It all depends on your hand.

Did I mention I love the Wenger SI?:)
