Just received my first sebenza. Small classic w/ African Blackwood inlays.Carried it for the first time today and was trying out various places. It seems to be the perfect size to carry in my back pocket next to my wallet like I used to w/ my mini-stryker. On my BM the clip screws finally stripped out and fell off from carrying it back there. What do you think about the sebbies. In its slip sheath any worries about sitting on it often for long periods?? How about the inlays? Think this might put to much stress on them? I hate to go clipless but should that be removed? Just looking for some insights from those who know.
I REALLY like this knife. Hopefully I can put some pics up soon. Thanks, looking forward to hanging out in here a little more. :)

Great question. I don't understand what happened with the BM. Did the screws strip and fall out due to the torque of being "bent" in the back pocket? If you are putting so much lateral stress on the knife that screws stripped out, then I think the chance of wood being damaged/working loose would be there as well, even withthe incredibly sturdy construction.
I don't know if there is enough stress in a back pocket to really cause this damage, though. I would be more scared for the pocket than for the sebbie!

I used to carry in the back pocket years ago, but after two rips in the ulpholstered car seat, several big scratches on various furniture, and a puncture in a leather seat that cost $260 to fix, oh and a couple partial openings that I got a minor cut with... I carry right front with the edge against the seam.

I often carry in the back pocket when I don't want something hanging on my belt, when I do I use a pouch or sometimes I have a fixed blade sheathed in my front pocket.

Thanks for the thoughts so far.

I think the problem with the BM was that as I was in college I went to many of the sporting events and I wonder if it was the hard bleachers that ended up doing it in. The stress of getting up and down and scooting on those hard surfaces is my guess. Either way it was 2 or 3 years of constant carry before that happened and since I kept it in my back pocket I just left it off.
Yeah I also started putting holes in pants but i think that that was more the G10 and sharp edges.
The Sebbie I was thinking about keeping it in the slip sheath both to tone down any problems with wear and any opening issues.

More knives get lost out of back-pockets than front pockets over time. IMHO

I think Bert is right. I wouldn't trust any knife in my back pocket. More wallets have been lost this way from what I've heard. If it's that easy to lose a wallet, then it wouldn't take much to lose a Seb. Front pocket or even belt sheath carry is the way to go. Of course if you really feel strongly about the back pocket carry thing, I'd at least attach a lanyard to one of your belt loops. In case the knife does fall it won't be lost.

On a lighter note; I wouldn't worry about stripping a Sebenza screw, it would take quite a bit. They're built tons tougher than a Benchmade. You would bend the pocket clip before the screw would come out!
;)

I carry in the back pocket about 90% of the time. It tends to be less noticeable and I can "go for my wallet" if someone tries to hold me up and come out with a surprise ;) I also tighten the clips on my knives before i put them in the back pocket.

Yeah...what Dave said happened to me also...for a small I would do front pocket carry or a belt sheath...the Seb will punch a hole in cheaper leather and fabrics...
