Anyone Change The Clip On Ener-G?

I sent a note to Kershaw customer support but I thought I'd ask here as well....

I have the black G-10 ENER-G and love everything about the knife except the clip. It's too pointy for back pocket carry...my preferred method...I've punctured two car seats so far. Has anyone ever changed the clip on this model or have knowledge of a clip that would fit? My preference would be something similar to the clip on the R.A.M.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I got 3 letters for you.....ready?.......STR.

Pop over to his forum and check out his lowrider clips. He could likely make the tip of the clip broad and rounded with a flat profile. Then, no more punctured seats.

If you don't want to pay the 30ish bucks for a lowrider.... someone will likely chime in with what factory clip will work.

Thanks. I'll definitely check it out. From what I've read on these forums, STR seems to be the answer to most of life's problems.

Still hoping for a factory clip that fits as well.

When I get home I'll take a look at my Ener-G and pull out a few options for you. That is if someone hasn't already solved your problem.

Quick question, is it the large or the small?

Hang tight and we'll get you all fixed up:thumbup:

The smaller of the two. Thanks again.

Mr. Yuqingeng...I suspect your first two posts are not going to endear you to many if you keep posting off-topic stuff in the wrong threads/forums...

You could do it yourself. If you have a Dremel tool, you could cut the tip off and then round the corners a little bit, repolish with some 400 grit up to 600 grit, and it's done. You'll have a broad tip that will not poke anymore car seats.

I thought of giving that a try and still might. If I screw it up, I guess I could buy a new clip from Kershaw.

The RAM clip won't work. Just checked. Unless SA comes up
with a model that will, I'd try Cutter's advice. If you muck the
clip up, all you have to do is go to Kershaws website or give
them a call and Dawn will fix you right up. Also keep in mind,
STR can design a clip that will fit your taste. He'll even let you
draw out what you would like.

I rummaged around to see if I could come up with something. You might be able to force a Leek clip but it is pointier than the Ener-G clip. A Cyclone clip would have been nearly perfect, but, no luck... Sorry dude:(

One thing I might suggest is using a back pocket sheath and losing the clip all together. I am thinking it might be nice to see if he could take a standard back pocket sheath and wet form it to your knife. (Anyone who has no idea what I am talking about really should check the link. These things are simple, cheap and very clever).

This guy makes some nice ones out of leather and could custom size it for your knife.

I knew you guys would point me in the right direction. A sincere "thanks" for going through the trouble of comparing clips.

Morgan from the warranty department e-mailed me this afternoon and is going to send me another Ener-G clip to experiment with. I've never dealt with a customer service department quite like Kershaw's. It's been said a thousand times here but wow!

If I'm successful with my "re-grind", I'll be sure to post a pic. If not, I think I'll send the knife to STR. I researched some of his work and he's quite the magician.

You know how some knife companies have a rabid following (sorta like Kershaw:D)......STR has a similar following with his lowriders. There are several folks I know of that will have a lowrider made for every knife they decide to stick in their pockets. I seriously doubt you would be disappointed.

Good luck on your clip regrind. Just remember to leave a little lip so you can get it over the seam of your pocket:)
