Anyone collect case knives?

You might scoot down to the Traditional Folders forum for a little more specific following.

They make great EDC knives, soo many to choose from. Also it depends on the type steel you choose as to what kind of edge it holds, but my Case in CV holds a very sharp razor like edge. Come check out the Traditional Knives section.

They are great everyday carriers. I have about 40 of them. Love them all. I would also say to make your way over to the traditional forum. Lots of case talk over there. I use to only go to that forum and never venture anywhere else. but that has changed for me. but I would recommend you go there. most of the people are great over there.

My Case peanut is my work edc five days a week. I wear dress clothes, so the little peanut is elegant looking, easy in dress pants, but still hard-working when needed.

Been carrying this one quite a bit of late. The CV swayback in chestnut bone.
They are doing a great job on this pattern.

Very nice pics .. you can make a career out of collecting Case knives, present and past. I know a guy that collects them exclusively, their range is huge.

Also do they make good edc, do they hold an edge? Do they increase in value?

They make a great EDC. Very useful blade shapes.
Case CV holds an edge better than Case Tru-Sharp. (CV is non-stainless.) Either alloy is very easily sharpened to a very fine edge. CV holds an edge about as well as Buck 420HC.

There are definitely a lot of people that collect / accumulate Case knives.

My main interest is the older ones. I have a weakness for red and green bone.
Not to be confused with the current offerings :D

There are so many variations, you could never possibly collect every one of them. Don't get to worried about the on going CV vs. Stainless Steel debate.
Buy what ever catches your eye and fits your pocket book....

You really need to venture over to the Traditional s/f.
There is a lot of knowledge to be had, and folks are happy to share and help out with questions. PLUS, they just great people. Almost forgot, there are a lot of great pictures to look at too. Production and custom knives

One other nice thing about Case, is that they are still in business here in the U.S and if you ever have any problems with one of their products, they have great customer service.

Most won't increase in value, with the possible exception of some very rare and desirable models. And that can fluctuate....
IMO if you look at them hoping to possibly make money on them, it will take a lot of the fun out of it.

As long as you don't over pay for one, you can use it for a while and if you don't really like it, you can sell it without losing very much money. Or you could even trade it. Over at the Traditional s/f, there is a slip joint tradin thread where you can swap out slip joints

My weakness is amber bone. Its very nice. Though I need to get some of those yeller handle ones. Case's really are excellent EDC's.

Greetings and welcome to BF.....:)

I have just begun collecting Case Knives and I am now up to 7. They are wonderful knives and a joy to carry and use.
I am less experienced with values so I will leave that to some of the more knowledgeable forumites.
For the price they are excellent value and highly addictive as collectables.
Be sure and post picks in the Traditional Forum if you decide to purchase a few.

All the best
Steven

The majority of Case knives are aimed at collectors and not users. These have relatively soft stainless blades that are meant not to hold an edge but to hold a finish and not corrode. Case does make great users, however. They make knives with carbon steel (they call it CV for carbon vanadium) and occasionally they will make a series with a more high tech stainless. These latter ones are meant to be used and make very suitable carry knives.

Personally, I collect Case Eisenhowers and I have perhaps 40 or 50 stag handled Case knives but I only carry those with CV blades and I have a couple with damascus blades that I carry from time to time. Choose your carry Case properly and it will do a great job for you.

A couple of months ago I picked up a really nice CASE fixed blade. Very similar to a Marbles Outdoorsman pattern. I think that is the pattern. Anyways it is fully flat ground, leather stacked handle, alum pommel and brass guard with colored spacers behind the guard. Blade is about 6" and handle is about 4.5". Loose guard and pommel which I can't figure out how to tighten up for the life of me. The leather handle is very tight though. I'll tell ya it takes a helluva an edge. I assume it is carbon steel but don't know for sure. Has that nice fine razor tooth edge like 01 or 1095 takes. A very fine knife to be sure. keepem sharp

I have a few. Here are some of them.

Cases are great. I have found most of them to be great users. I find that the stainless works just fine, I've never had any problems with their steel. I like the carbon a little bit better, but not enough to keep me from buying plenty of their stainless models.

Now Why ya got show the toenails:eek::)
I feel a yearning everytime i see one:D
To the OP,
Case makes great knives all mine are winners and users so i cant rightly comment on the appreciation or depreciation of a collection... i'm an Accumulator rather than a collecter;)
I recommend any of their offerings in CV steel:thumbup:
If its Yeller even better:)
their stainless isnt bad either, actually holds up well but the CV develops character as you use it
