Was not sure where to post this question. Figure this would be the forum that matches the topic best. It does involve backpacking.

Has anyone travleled to Spain and done the Camino de Santiago?

Any thoughts, impressions, and advice would be helpful. I have a friend who wants to do it. She has watched many videos on youtube and read up on the journey. She has done parts of the PCT on her own and wants to try the Camino. Wonder if anyone here has done it.

I haven't done it but a guy I work with has, about five years ago. When he stops bitching (which he always does, about everything) he says it's a pretty amazing trip. He's not outdoorsy, smokes, is in only so-so shape, and did it with his family, but still speaks highly of it. There is a lot of history and culture involved with it, so it seems pretty cool.

A guy I work with did it too. He's about 65, healthy, and drank a bottle+ of wine every day on the trip. He said it was an amazing journey, and a wonderful use of a month. I believe he slept in little hotels mostly and just carried a day pack.

My sister and her husband just return from doing it.
They are in average shape and enjoyed it pretty much.
Their recommendation was to carry a poncho, depending on the time of the year it could rain a lot, and to start walking early in the morning so by 1 or 2pm you would arrive in to the small hotels before they wet packed with other walkers.
As usual take good care of your feet and get ready to drink a lot of wine.
Regards
