So I bought some camo pm3 scales with the intent of dying them red. I’ve have used dye on many different knives with G-10 and FRN scales with great success. With these the dye literally just washes off when I rinse. Any suggestions? Thanks all!

I've seen pictures of dyed camo PM2s. The camo pattern remains prominent; but it looks good (in the colors I saw).

I've never tried dying them, so I can't really comment; but I did some micarta scales with decent results...it took a lot of dye, and a lot of time to get there.

What dye did you use? I have better luck with the powdered RIT than the liquid variety.

I've also had good luck with hair dye. It's VERY concentrated and penetrates well so be careful if you go that route. It'll get dark fast. It'll also dye EVERYTHING it makes even brief contact with.

I use synthetic RIT dye variation that comes in a bottle. Bring to just above simmer. Dip and keep an eye on it as you can go dark too fast. I never take more than 5 to 10 minutes. Usually closer to 5. I use whole bottle with about half cup water. Store in a jar to reuse. only stainless steel or something else you don’t mind taking in color.
