And if so, do you use it for general cutting tasks? How do you feel about it in that roll? Thanks.

I carried one when I couldn't carry a pistol. I also carried a second knife for everyday chores. I sold it to get another Emerson. I am really regretting it now.

I can't speak for the Emerson, but I did carry a 5.11 as an EDC for a while, and I can say that it doesn't do as well as a "regular" blade shape by any means....at least in my estimation. That being said, it would do what I needed, just not always as easy as I would have liked. I, like Grind, started carrying a secondary knife for more general cutting, keeping the karambit reserved. That would probably be the way to go, in my opinion.

I have carried them off and on for quite a while and they are actually a pretty handy little knife.
They are rather wide when closed so take up more pocket room that just about any other knife though.

A hawkbill blade can do almost anything a "normal" shaped blade can do, you just have to get used to using it.

I carry a combat karambit everyday when I am off work and a 5.11 Tarani karambit at work. I do not carry those for cutting chores. I generally carry an Emerson mini A-100 or mini Cqc-15 for cutting tasks. The Commander....CQC-7...and Bullnose karambits made by Emerson are probably better choices for general cutting with a karambit style handle.

I do, it is a handy tool to have for both its intended purpose as well as opening bubble packs, fine trimming of coax shielding, and some limited general cutting. I also carry a "regular" knife for the general cutting though I tend more toward the karambit.

Bimmer I find it interesting you carry the 5.11 karambit in place of the combat karambit.

I am in the medical field and the 5.11 Journeyman karambit just feels less heavy in the pocket of my scrubs while at work. It has been my standard work carry karambit for quite some time. Also......if I lose it at work then it is a loss but not as great as losing the Emerson. I do carry an Emerson mini CQC-15 as well when at work so two Emersons would be somewhat heavy in the right side pockets of my scrubs.

Outside of work I always carry at least one Emerson combat karambit and sometimes two!!!:)

Are combat kerambits tapped for both left and right carry? Do they make a left hand specific model?

The Emerson combat karambit is drilled on both sides of the handle to change the pocket clip from one side to the other.

Cool, I thought so. I want one but I just don't think this is the type of knife to carry without training. I figure it would be awesome at helping keep retention of my firearm.

Thanks for the reply Bimmer
