Anyone EDC a CUDA MAXX?

Thinking about the possibility of getting a CUDA MAXX in the bowie style blade to EDC, and just wondering about people's insights pro/con compared to something in the 3.5" range... Is it too big to be agile, or too big to be politically correct? Big enough to be useful on more things?

I have the CUDA MAXX 5.5 and love it, it is a top of the line knife. The D2 blade steel does take some effort to sharpen, but thanks to its strength, it also holds an edge extremely well. The titanium frame provides excellent rigidity, durability, and a very tight lock-up.
Your concerns are valid though. With a blade that big, it would be a good idea to check the laws where you live to make sure there is not a legal length limit. Sheeple are also an issue. When you take out this knife, it gets noticed. There have been times when I wanted to cut something, but checked myself because I didn't want to draw that much attention. Manageability is also a legitimate concern. For most jobs, something in the 3.5" size range would be more practical.
To conclude, if you like the design, you won't be displeased with it. Just be aware of the drawbacks. Another thought is that with the demise of Camillus, a new CUDA MAXX would probably be a good investment.

they work jst fine for EDC, i EDC'd a maxx stilletto for a while, and also occasionaly pack a ralph maxx stilletto or mini maxx spearpoint, they all pack just fine imho. the cuda maxx is a really close copy of the custom maxx FWIW. in your pocket ya cant tell any of from a 3" knife imho.

i have always liked the stilletto version vs the bowie myself FWIW,

I agree that they are easy to carry. They have a slim profile, and ride quite easily in the pocket. It is when you take it out that the size becomes noticeable.

I just got one (thanks again sierra1!) and I love it. The quality and f&f is extremely nice. But it really is BIG. I'm a fairly big guy but this thing looks almost ridiculous in my hand! I'm not sure it would be prudent for me to carry it as an edc in this left-leaning state ... it's still a great knife and I'll probably use it mostly around the house. It should also serve as a good SD knife if you're interested in that. It is most definitely not a PC knife, keep that in mind if you're around sheeple. Most knives might elicit a remark from sheeple, this one would have them dialing 911.

Well, I have a Cudda Maxx 5.5 but have not edc'd it, however, I also have the Aftermath assisted opener in D2 Steel and I have EDC'd that quite a bit when I get the whim to.
It's a very larg knife but surprisingly it carries just fine in my right front pocket and it quick to get out of my pocket in into action.

I would not recommend using the Cudda Maxx or the Aftermath to whip out and cut off the 2 bannanas you wife wanted at the store. It could cause of sheeple stamped out the doors.

FWIW

Like you, I am Canadian, and we have a lot of laws limiting us on what to carry, so I decided to EDC a Maxx just to piss people off. "I like the design and it's totally legal, so I will carry it".

I won't lie to you, it's huge. I prefer not to take it out at job, I don't care but my boss may. But it's a great knife. You can easily wave it open or just push the flipper and then lock it with your index (DON'T flip it open in Canada or you'll be in trouble).

You cna carry one, just watch yourself on how you open it.

I have been looking around for a CUDA Maxx but all the knife outlets are out of stock. I guess Cammillus is still on strike.

yeah i have been looking for a stilletto version since i swapped mine a while back, no one has them that i could find anyway, stilletto or bowie.

Yes, still on strike. From the sound of it, there will be no coming back. Camillus has opened their books to the union to show that the money just isn't there, but the workers can't afford to keep working for the current wages. If you want more detailed info, there have been threads here with posts from Camillus employees. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=403736&highlight=strike

In terms of finding a CUDA MAXX, One Stop Knife Shop is showing it, try them.

 86!!!
I hate you ;)

I said earlier that the knife can be waved, but I forgot to mention it needs some mods before, you need to reverse the clip to carry it tip-down.

actually to wave it the clip needs to be reversed to tip up carry, ya got it backwards bud.

didja get it off the for sale forum on BF?? if so i remember that 1 it looked well done .

I thinks it is. Bought it from Death's heat last month, mods were made by STR.

So if you want a Maxx (or any knife), do like me, keep an eye on the sale area. The hard thing is to stop looking at it when you're broke.

Do you believe when i saw it for 86.00 i waited a week or two to go back & get it? i dont know what i was waiting for!decisions decisions.was toying with the gibbs maxx idea for a year or so now, i think its handle is so long it may not even fit in a pocket.....
