other than me? I don't see a lot about them and would like to strike up a conversation. What are you opinions?

I EDC a C305 when I don't need pliers. Soon I will have a Crater series version of this. The C305 is pretty tough. The handle is very filling in my hand and I never had the tools fold on me.

Aside from the C305 I carry a Crater c33. What an improvement! I have already written a thread on this one somewhere on here.

So, let's hear it. What do you think of the Leatherman line up of knives? Both old and new.

I bought the C305 at a clearance sale and didn't pay much. The concept is good, though the execution poor. The C305 feels great in the hand due to the rubber pads which improve grip.

I tried to carry it in my pants pocket but that didn't last long due to 2 problems:

(1) It was so thick that I couldn't easily reach my hand in my pocket past the knife to retrieve other items.

(2) The thumbstud stuck out so far past the handle that it scraped my hand and was painful. (I used a bench grinder and Dremel rotary tool to shorten the thumbstud a couple of days ago.)

The carabiner / bottle opener are not useful to me and just add unwanted weight.

Now, I sometimes carry the C305 either in a jacket pocket or in an EDC bag.

Am curious about the C33T, the newest model, because it is thinner and lighter weight. Tried a C33B at the store and was disappointed. The new handle was slippery and lacked the grippy rubber portions. The blade required 2 hands to open because the action was so stiff. It might ease up with use, but I didn't buy it.

Got an H503, but find it even wider and much heavier than the C305. The H503 has no belt clip and is intended for belt case carry. The bits are difficult to remove from the handle.

I carried a 305 for a time. I ended up giving it to my step-brother as a work knife so that he would quit bugging me to borrow mine:D I thought the idea was sound. Basically a more knife oriented version of the SAK. The tools worked fine, and the bottle opener did function quite well.

However, it simply was too chunky for my pockets. If I wanted to carry something on my hip in a sheath, then I would either pack a full on MT or a better knife. IMHO, despite some of the issues I have with the Skeletool, I think it implements better function into the package.

I might give the crater series a go if I find a good deal on one and get "the itch";) I bought the 305 probably 4 years ago or so.

Hi Morablades,

I've been EDCing the Expanse e33T for a month or so. I think all of the second generation Leatherman knives offer significant improvements over the first gen.

These are still good sized knives. I either use a belt pouch or use the clip when wearing cargo pants. The fixed screwdrivers appeal to me a bit more than the exchangable bits. I like the carabiner for when I'm working outside - just clip it to a D-ring or a buttonhole.

Hope this helps - Joe

I've got an old Leatherman multi-tool in the truck (no idea of Model #) but EDC a Leatherman Squirt P4 on my key ring. Feels good to know it's there if needed.

I like the multi-tools, but I had a C305 and broke the Phillips blade right off when using it. I was torquing it hard, but I have never broken one off a Swiss Army Knife.

As a knife, Spydercos, Kershaws, Benchmades and the like make better choices.

i edc a c300 i got for Christmas a few years ago. i also picked up a c305 at wal-mart before it was retired, but i have the same problem with it as everyone else, so i don't carry it much.

I bought a Expanse e33b (40% discount) and I like it quite a lot. The quality is much better than previous versions. It´s thinner and more solid. I really like the Blade-Launcher. It´s not as rock-hard as a Farmer but it is a nice knife.

I have been carrying a Leatherman Kick I got at Sears for ten bucks several years ago. I don't have any complaints since it is just a casual tool. Like most people, I bet the pliers and the screwdriver tips are most used. I also EDC a Camillus folder made for Sears, so I rarely use the LM blade and wish they were more modular like SOGs. I'd like a V-cutter and jeweler's screwdrivers, and a saw would be nice. In fact, I'm thinking of getting a SOG, but feel I'll probably miss the Kick's lightness. BTW, I can flip it open with one hand now, so I don't see that as a selling point for other makes.

I carry a Charge XTI everyday and would be lost without it. I've never done a lot of research as to who makes the best Multi on the planet... but this tool is by far the best I've ever owned and I've owned SOG, Gerber, SAK, and other leathermans... I love this thing. And the 154cm blade is an excellent addition.
