So the weather outside is doing a great job of imitating the arctic today (-32° C) Here it is a necessity in the winter to keep your face and hands (as well as the rest of you) warm as frostbite can get you in minutes at -30 temps. Still I see the vast majority of people with no warm hat and no gloves.

Yes this is not a big issue for most but cold is not the only thing that can get to your hands. Most of us prepare for the worst, we carry tools, food, and water in our vehicles in case of emergency. We carry FAK's with us (or near us) but what if "it" does hit the proverbial fan? What if you need to deal with broken glass from windows or cars? What if there are shards of steel and splintered wood all over? Are we prepared to deal with that as well?

So I carry cut resistant search and seizure gloves with me in my bag, for the cold and maybe one day for the unknown. Anyone else carry gloves with them?

i always have on me a set of my nomax pilot gloves. they probably wouldn't work well in your situation but they are fire resistant and hold up very well. i think it is a complete necessity to keep your hands in good shape cause with out them you can't really do anything

sure do, a nice pair of black leather Watson (made locally down the street from me) gloves.

most days i have gloves with the fingers cut off because i do not have to take them off for anything.

I have gloves in all my vehicles, coats and jackets...but I just remembered I need to put a pair of gloves in my outdoors pack! -Matt-

I have wintery leather gloves for the cold in my winter jacket pocket all the time.
I also carry work gloves in my bag in case I need something sturdier.

Winter gloves in my winter jacket when they aren't on my hands, and work gloves in the left thigh pocket of my work pants when THEY'RE not on my hands. In my work as a dog rehabilitation trainer, this habit has paid off many times.

I always wear appropriate weight gloves when travelling in the woods in all seasons, and only take them off for delicate chores instead of only donning them for the hard and potentially hurtful tasks that so often crop up by surprise. Even a small cut or blister can be debilitating under field conditions.

Whynacht that is why I wear the cut resistant type, you are very right even a small cut can cause major problems ie. infection.

I carry well fitting gloves, either roper, or mechanic style. I also carry a pair of big nylon mittens in my car recovery bag.

I have a pair in each of my vehicles but also keep a pair in my day bag. They're not usually the best for cold weather but just some work gloves are better then nothing.

Have a pair of good leather in both my trucks.Trying out some of those rubber dipped and really like them.Moisture does not affect them, and i am in the snow a bunch.Keep a bunch of cotton ones around for easy tasks you don't need to touch bare metal with nothing on your pinkies.
Have several pairs of outdoor activities gloves, fingerless, ect.

Good thread .
I was about to start one myself. I always thought that gloves were something really important, but I never saw a survival show where the actors, erhm, survivalists (:p) wore gloves . Why not? To me it makes perfect sense to use gloves most of the time, and not only for rough work.

So what do you guys recommend? I do have "normal" leather gloves, but I was wanting something tougher, that could really take abuse. Since I live here in Brazil, I don't need anything worm, it just has to be comfortable and tough.

I was looking at Mechanix's CG Impact Pro:

But I couldn't find an online retailer that ships it here to Brazil . Does anyone know where I could find a pair or maybe some good substitute?

I saw a pair of mechanic gloves that had very solid knuckle caps.... that might come in handy..... or not.

I have leather and canvas gloves in the car and in urban kit and carry a pair of lined leather gloves and a pair of Under Armor gloves in my EDC bag.

Anyone else carry gloves with them?
Definetly!

When I was living in IL (where single digit winter temps are not at all unusual) I always kept a spare pair of heavy winter gloves or mitts in the car (along with other insulated cold-weather clothing). Even now that I am living in a warmer area, I still keep a pair of work gloves in the car, and in my daypack. Handy to keep the hands warmer on the occasional cool day, or for protection if I have to change a tire, hop a barbed wire fence, or whatever else comes along.

I keep a pair of mechanic's gloves (ACE hardware knockoffs) in my EDC bag and then in the winter I also add a pair of Milsurp polypro glove liners.

THe mechanics gloves I wear when it's warm out or I'm working with tools. I've got a pair of icebreaker's liners that I can wear under them.

For colder weather I've got a pair of arcteryx gloves and then a heavy pair of DaKine mittens (ski style). I've also got a heavy lined pair of leather work gloves. Never find myself unhappy with whatever I decide to wear, so as long as I don't lose anything I'm pretty set.

I have been looking at the US ECW mittens (leather palms wool back, they look nice).
