Anyone EDC the RC-4?

I could use some input on carry methods for the RC-4. My daily work clothes consist of cargo shorts and t-shirt in the summer or pants/carhart overalls in the winter. I do carry a skeletool clipped in my right front pocket and also a handgun IWB at 4 o'clock.

I would like to carry the RAT but when wearing it on my left hip with the supplied paracord, the handle digs into my ribcage. I've been just slipping the whole knife/sheath into my left pocket with keys or my left cargo pocket. That works but isn't ideal.

I'm to thin to wear it horizontally across my back so I'm at a loss for a solution. Maybe I will just have to leave it on my pack for camping trips.
BTW, I do have a CCDW permit so concealed is preferred, although I'm open to any and all suggestions.
Thanks!

Buy another RAT Cutlery Product to EDC ( RC3,Izula,HEST) & leave the RC4 for camping IMO

That's what I was afraid someone would say. My skeletool cx has a 2.5" blade that's partially serrated. It's very useful but I guess any of the three you mentioned would complement it well.

You could try molle locks but put thicker rubber spacers in (Plumbing section of local hardware shop will have them ) and use longer bolts, that will move the knife and handle out from your ribs
Sharpshooter do a piggy back kit that could be moded, KSF stock them
Tek Lok by Blade tech will do the same job of moving it away from the body a bit
or leave the Rc4 at home and carry an Izula, it will cope with all normal edc tasks , thats what I carry normaly,

The four is A bit big for me to edc. If I had to/ wanted to, the Molle back has a nice Velcro belt loop on top. Works very well for easy on off and belt carry.

I would say out of the 3 I listed ,I prefer my Izula as my EDC

Thanks guys, I'll try diff. methods of spacing it out away from my ribs some and if all else fails, I'll be buying an Izula regardless.

I've been edcing my RC-4 on and off for a few weeks. I use the leather sheath that KSF sells. It does a good job of dropping the handle down so that it's no longer rib level. You could also try the MOLLE back that's available for the RC-3/4 sheaths. I don't have one, but I'm sure that it would attach to a belt, and that would drop the handle down a few inches as well. The only way that I could figure out to carry just the standard sheath was across my back, and you said that didn't work.

I'll second the other folks that suggested another RAT. I've been considering an RC-3 b/c it's a little smaller and thinner, but with a 4, you're ready for anything. ;-) I've got an Izula, and it's a breeze to carry.

someone wanna post a "carry" pic of the izula and RC3? I have the RC4 and freaking love it, Im thinking real hard on both of them I mentioned for carry, just want an idea of what they might look like on ya

one can carry an RC4 for EDC for sure. Front pocket carry, if the handles are too thick do a paracord wrap. You could ankle carry, in the waistbelt carry, etc. A RC4 is less bulky than most CCW guns and people manage to hide those, its just that sometimes they are in funky places that are a bit less accessible.

Here's a quick and dirty set of photos. I usually just pocket the izula, but considering swaping to this method. I don't normally carry the 4 like this, but have done it with both the 4 and 6 a time or two. IWB canted it's like it's not even there, I can sit or drive with reasonable comfort. The 3 i just clip to my belt vert.

Thanks for the pics Dizwolf. I may try that out. I did find a way to use the paracord at the 10 o'clock position with a slight forward cant. It works pretty well at least until I save up for an Izula.

SOB (means small of back, unless you really hate it) carry can be very comfortable and completely undetectable, but there is one major caveat. I used to occasionally carry my pistol that way until I read the story of the guy who broke his back when he fell on his. The moral of the story is, having an inflexible object resting against your spine could be a very bad idea if you happen to land on it.

When the Izula gives you so many easy ways to carry, I can't seem to justify going through the trouble of coming up with a new system for the RC4, anyway.

I think the Izula is the only one I'd really use as an EDC. Be it as a neck knife when your shirt is tucked in or use an IWB (in waist band) strap when your shirt is untucked. Then again I live in an area that'd shit a brick if they saw any of them, so it could just be me taking it down a notch. Just my 2 cents.

I don't EDC my RC-4 but have been experimenting with different carry methods for when I'm In Country. I personally can't stand a hip hanger. Don't ask me why but it always seems to get in the way and snag on things. Therefore I prefer the SOB by a long shot. However, I haven't perfected a SOB system I'm satisifed with yet either. I've tried the Tek-Lok and that just doesn't work for me. Sort of like having a chimney brick in the small of your back when you're sitting. (I bought 2, they're free for anyone who wants them, you pay to ship them your way -that sums that up) Plan B was I procurred a kydex belt loop that mounts to the factory kydex sheath, it works but they're just open kydex loops and theres no friction agaist the belt to keep it from sliding around when you're egressing the knife.
I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and find a leather guy to custom build me what I want.

I'm still open to suggestions. Good luck with finding the right solution for you. When you do, share it. We all learn what works by others examples.

I'm a big SOB guy too, I found an awesomely convenient spot that has a single downside. Most daypacks and framed packs have horizontal straps running across the shoulder straps of the pack. With some 550 chord one can very securely mount any kydex or cordura sheath to that spot, very easily accessible. Downside is for whatever reason you ditch/lose your pack you gotta be sure to grab your freakin knife before you do.

I imagine landing in that manner, knife or not, your getting up slow.

I also prefer shoulder carry while hiking. Usually have a folder or boot knife in case I'm away from my gear. After years of duct tape and Velcro, I love the rat sheaths
