Anyone else actually use a Buck/Mayo

The Buck/Mayo is a great knife that for (I believe) a couple reasons is not as popoluar as it should be. This has been discussed before and thus I digress.

However, I am curious to know if there is anyone else who carries the 172 and actually uses it. I don't carry it to work (Spydie Navigator or BM 771) but as soon as I get home, in my pocket goes the 172. It stays there all weekend, except church. Love that knife.

Anyone else actually use their Buck/Mayo?

The Buck Mayo is an outstanding knife. I have a bunch of blades that I rotate as EDCs and when the 172 goes in my pocket it usually stays there for at least a week (which is a long time for me!). I love a thin grind on a knife and the Mayo is a great slicer. It's a pretty expensive knife but I think in terms of quality its equal to my WH T12 which was about the same price.

I've been considering buying a custom TNT but so far I've managed to keep my wallet in my pocket. Being so happy with the Buck has helped me from pulling the trigger. Maybe Tom shouldn't have done such a good job with his collaboration :p

I have been carrying my Buck 172 Mayo in my EDC rotation for most of a year. That probably means a couple days a week mixed in with high end Benchmades and old Microtechs. It's a fine knife and I carry it often when in nice clothes because it's so slim but sturdy.

Just two days ago I got a real Mayo (my first), right from the man him self that I'd waited over a year for. There is simply no comparison between them. The Buck 172 is an awesome knife on it's own, and a great user, but a real Ti/S30V Mayo is in another class altogether.

Here's a comparison pic, but it doesn't really tell teh whole story:

My Buck / Mayo TnT is my weekday EDC. It gets used for everything.

Love it.

I used to EDC a buck mayo until I sold it off recently. A fantastic knife. Glassy smooth, very very sharp (after I reprofiled in on the edgepro to under 30 degrees included), lock-up was fantastic. fit and finish is better than a lot of similarly priced prodos and even some customs.

I've never handled a real custom Mayo so I don't know if there's a difference.

Well worth the price. If you have some tools, the buck mayo deserves some mods:

(1) grind off top horn;
(2) bead blast handles and ceramic vibe tumble them for an even smoother finish;
(3) flame colour the handles;
(4) reprofile the edge and polish it up.

As the steel is S30V and is heat treated by Paul Bos, I'd say performance-wise, it is on par or isn't far off from its custom siblings.

It's my go-to knife for the office. While it is a bit larger than a lot of gentlemen's folders, it's so darn elegant that no one ever looks askance when I pull it out to cut something. It's very ergonomic; just a joy to hold and use.

This is an EDC/user for me. I have one from the first group that was sold.

Buck/Mayo is part of my rotation, more towards off duty vice on duty. I've used it when jogging, and hiking, too. Very light weight, good handle, little to no bladeplay, and pretty sharp. :p

I have Buck Mayo and a real Mayo.

I think both knives are just amazing... Buck Mayo is an amazing knife for it's price. It's so damn sharp too!

Real Mayo is just ..... :cool:

I carry this knife to work with me every day. It can open boxes with the best of them and does not get the commets that the AR gets. Oh yea it also cuts a lot of fruit.

It's my office EDC for the same reasons noted by sheltot.
