Anyone else appreciate the focus on functionality that tends to go with spyderco?

I always wanted a spyderco, even though I wasn't a big fan of how a lot of designs looked so I wasn't sure why, after getting my order of a PM2 and millie in and hanging around the spyderco forums a bit more I understand why. There seems to be a emphasis on the functionality of a knife in the design and materials used. Not only that but when someone suffers a knife failure of another brand I see people screaming misuse and belittling the knife owner for not leaving it packed in its box. Yet when a spyderco fails the owner himself frequently ASKS to have it sent it to examine.

I really do appreciate it, because it works. You know that the knife is more refined for function than the average knife from other manufacturers.

I love Spyderco knives. To me they are bang for the buck bargains...with superior ergos and functionality.
The combination of superior materials and superior handling is addictive...the only downside is nobody can buy just one!!!

Enjoy your new blades.I love my Para too!

yes. thats why the only modern folding knife i own are spydercos. great thread! i feel like a lot of ppl get caught up in the little details that do not matter or impact performance.

I'll be the first to admit I thought the designs looked goofy when I first became interested in knives. I now own and use exclusively Spyderco. Why? Because they carry the way I wanna carry. They cut when I need them to cut. And they feel right in my hand. Are there some models I don't like? Yes. But they are far outweighed by the designs that work for me. And like others have said. I haven't noticed the presidents of other companies lending advice and outstanding customer service through the forums. In my opinion Jo other company comes close to the total package like Spyderco. They are far and away THE company to mimick.

Nine of every ten folders that I buy...are Spyderco. Never had a bad one.
I suppose I'm a fan-boy, but I didn't start out that way...
It was a learning experience.

Yeah I very much appreciate users; and Spydercos are heavy users.

I like nice stuff for sure but it's got to be turnkey.

The first knife I had beyond a SAK was a delica over 15 years ago. Have always liked the design and the hole. Recently gotten in to some other brands like microtech, CRK, and a lot of traditionals, but will always buy spyderco too. They are such good knives for the price and so useful. A lot of good stuff coming out lately too. I don't think a thumb stud or any other manner of opening is feels as good or as smooth as a spyderco hole. I am glad they are starting to go to other lock styles though.

It took me a long time to come back to Spyderco. This company makes some of the best folders around.

My first Spydie was a millie. I was underwhelmed when I got it so I used it like I found it. That's when the design clicked. Millies are my favorite knife now.

Spyderco was the first knife company I was ever introduced to, so the designs that so many people feel are 'strange', 'weird', 'goofy' or otherwise hard to warm up to are ones I've always accepted and thought of as normal. Pretty much every company produces at least one solid/renown/quality design, and I by no means champion Spyderco as the end-all manufacturer...there's just too much awesome stuff out there. But, a full 50% of my collection is Spyderco for a reason...because to me, they 'get it right' so many times...design, ergonomics, materials, fit and finish. And, as previously mentioned, Sal is among us...A rare thing, to be cherished!

No doubt Spyderco is my favorite knife company. The models that I have fit my hand and do the job they are intended to do very well.

The designs just seem to have a flow to them where the steel, locking mechanism etc, was all chosen with a specific function and price in mind. Light weight spydercos don't have super locks, the heavier duty ones have tougher locks etc.

When I first got into knives I was more concerned with how they looked than just about anything else. Then I found out about different steels and I started looking for knives in the steels that fit my needs. After that I started paying more attention to ergonomics, a steel that could keep an edge was great, but if the knife was too uncomfortable to use for long the edge didn't matter much, so I started looking at handles. Finally, I started to figure out cutting efficiency and different grinds and how the right grind could make the difference between wrestling a knife through a sheet of cardboard or watching it sail through with little effort on my part. Spyderco is the best example of all of those concepts coming together in one place. I don't like every one of their knives, but I like a higher percentage of theirs than any other company I know of.

love the fit finish and quality and designs of most all there knifes, add to that all the steels they use,i would say they have one of the best customer service dept.on planet earth at that!really whats not to like,oh, there knifes are easy to open to!

There is a time and place for pretty knives that don't cut any better than knives a tenth their price, and I have some of those. Then there's a time for work (and even play) when I need something with no bells and whistles that'll cut effortlessly, open easily, be reliable, and feel good in my hand all without breaking the bank, and that's when I grab a Spyderco.
