Anyone else do this or am I just a bad person?

I know this makes me sound a little pathetic but here goes. I have lately found myself telling little fibs about what I pay for certain knives. Like when asked "How much did that cost us?" I will say something vague like "not much" or "umpteen dollars" or severly rounding down from $150 to like "around a hundred". I have also found myself trying to get to the mailbox first in case any packages arrived I might want to hide. I do not hide them forever but if I buy 2 or 3 knives I like to slowly introduce them over a couple weeks so it does not seem like I am addicted. I also find myself sneeking off in the mall to go look at the displays at the knife shop when I am supposed to be cloth shopping or something else.

Who are you hiding them from? Friends and coworkers, or your wife/girlfriend.

I feel the pain.....wives just don't understand...and they definitely don't understand when you ask them the same questions about their 67th pair of shoes they just bought.

Do you earn your money or does someone else give it to you?

Do you get out of bed early in the morning to go to work when you would rather sleep in?

Do you put up with bullsh*t from your boss?

Do you see where I'm going with this?

If its something you enjoy and its not putting you in a bad finacial position keep on keeping on!

Yes..I do earn my money
No... I usually sleep in since I set my own schedule (and I am usually up until 3-4am)
I am the boss but I can be a real jerk sometimes.
But your point is well made.

I do not have a wife and my friends and business partner are not problem... but I do have a spouse/partner that just gives me a dirty look and does the eye roll whenever I buy a knife or gun. Like I am a foolish child blowing my allowance on bubble gum. We both make good money and have none of those evil, demonic, foul smelling little midgets (some people call them children) to suck our cash but who needs that "at least I didn't blow $$$ on knives" comment whenever you question one of their purchases. "At least I don't spend $200 a month on coffee drinks" is about the only comeback i have. I have promised that if we adopt next year like I want to that the knives and guns are all locked away and no new ones will be bought. Don't need unlocked weapons in the house with a new 5yr old roaming around. My action figure collection that adorns the walls of my office will also have to be put away also for different reasons...because if the kid opened that packages or damaged them I would be forced to get the guns back out.

ah the joy of being single and spending what I want on whatever I want -- just wish I had more to spend than what I have :D

Hey...careful there. I also love shoes. I must have like 35 different types of boots, dress, and hiking shoes. What good is being a gun packing, knife toting nutjob if you don't have the right accesories?
:D

Life is short enough without you punishing yourself and feeling guilty. If you can afford it and it does not interfere with your financial state then go for it and enjoy ,your here for a short time not a hard time.:D

Yes, you are a bad person, like me and many others in this forum.

dantzk.

I've told my live in girlfriend the old "its ok, I sold one to get this one"
which is true ... only I forgot to mention I had to kick in another 200 bucks! *snicker snicker*;)

Amen Brotha! After being married 35 years....we sort of have a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that seems to work fine.

Isn't life arranged perfectly? Nobody gets away with anything.:D

Just be honest. I share everything with my wife and she knows how much knives I buy cost and how often I buy them. I told her it's like how women like shoes. She then understood :-)

I used to try doing that with wifey, but she's smarter than me and always knows. She says it's fine with her as long as my side of the bills are being paid. It's less expensive and less harmful than some other ways to spend money, too, except when I cut myself...

I feel the same about having private time with new knives and not showing them around.

Over the few years it has developed a kind of game considering my wife. I don´t show her at first. I let the new ones slide in so one day she notices them. She never asks for the price. The game came up, since she looked at one CRKT Kaspar and said: "Man, this really is a huge knife!" But she thought this was my actual edc, a BM Mini AFCK. Suddenly she realised it and since then the game has started.

OK, we want to spare some money for some bigger things, so now i am holding back, or lets say, i spent a bit less on other equipment.:D

The comparision with shoes comes near, but she regrets to buy anymore.:o

Knifeaholic may strike or not, i think, we are a kind of sensitive ppl.:D

I think a lot of us have gone through at least some part of what you are experiencing now.

I must interject at least this much - having a child is a lot of work and expense but will bring you FAR more satisfaction and pleasure than the finest knife colection in the world.

Same here, after almost 20 years we sort of have the same policy, but I only spend what I can afford and I don't let my hobbies take priority over "family necessities" ( like big screen tv's and DVD players :) ) .

The truth is I can turn it on and off, our income fluctuates over the year so sometimes I have to stop all non-essential spending.
