Last year I finally picked up the LUDT. Great knife. Holds an edge well and no problems with rusting. I wanted to find out exactly what "440HC" steel really was since the type of steel was not listed on the blade. The steel listed on some of the dealers sites say anything from stainless to 154CM to D2 for the '06 models. The Microtech web site said 440HC and their catalog says 440HC @56rc, D2@59rc. When I called Mike Sweeney @ MT he said that there wasn't really a 440HC steel but that the later models were 420HC the early '06 models were D2. I asked him why the steel type wasn't listed on the blade. His excuse was that their engraving laser was not working. That's funny, the date and talon logo were laser etched on the blade.
Sounded like some kind of excuse to me. :grumpy:
Anyway, the blade does sharpen easily. I've never owned a knife with 420HC or D2 steel (2 possible subjects for what steel the blade really is). After a series of customer servive problems with Microtech, then the mystery steel, and several other people complaining or selling off their MT knives, I've ditched almost all of mine.
Like I've said before, I'm sorry that I've strayed from Benchmade.
