Anyone Else Eager for the HTM AXD?

I know Mr. Ralph has mentioned that the AXD series might show up in an HTM format and I, for one, am really excited about it. I fell in love with pocket openers the first time I encountered an Emerson, but I like the looks and materials that DDR and HTM use a great deal more. My personal preference would be an HTM AXD with Maxx Glide bearings and a 4.5" blade, but I'd probably grab whatever came out. Is there anyone else lusting after an AXD?

It's a distinctive design, but more knife than I feel comfortable carrying, though with a weapon's license, I have no restrictions in terms of blade length.

I would love to see an HTM ADX but instead of waiting for that I just went ahead and ordered the custom. It cost more than a HTM version would I'm sure but I don't think I'll regret my decision.

Interesting that this thread popped up. I was about to come in here and start a discussion about the AXD and Aftermath designs.

I love the asymmetry of the AXD/Aftermath tanto point and the tapering pistol-style grip. If HTM does come out with a mid-tech version of it, I'll definitely get one. Otherwise, an AXD (probably around 4 inches) will likely be my first DDR custom.

I know I said I was going to get a Gunhammer custom first, but my little HTM Gunhammer is working so well that I don't want it to lose pocket time just because it's bigger, better brother shows up. So AXD custom first. :D

By the way -- what's the planned blade-length on the HTM AXD? Is it going to be five and a half inches like the customs?

Will ask. Was gonna ask about it tonight, but he seems to be away from his phone. Will call him tomorrow and talk about some things to pass on that I have gathered from the forums.

Sweet, thanks.

It's difficult being a knife enthusiast in California. We have very lax legal carry laws (blades of any length are legal in California in general), but an overly paranoid population. I'd love to get an HTM AXD, but if it's gonna be another five-and-a-half incher I'll probably wait and get the AXD as a 4-inch custom instead.

Also Hark, can you ask what his plans are for grip texturing and locking mechanisms? I'd love to see an HTM AXD with an ETAC frame lock, Gunny-style!

Edit: I just want to add that seeing Darrel's designs has re-kindled my love for the tanto blade style. The AXD/Aftermath is, for my money, the finest re-interpretation of the tanto I've ever seen.

I'll ask. The AXD is most certainly going to be a framelock, but I'll double check. The texturing is an interesting question. I'll find out.

I just asked DR [ for the second time ? ] about a custom AXD.

I am a HUGE fan of the 'bowie' or clip point and I carry a LARGE blade at all times [ in addition to CCW's stuff ].

I think a HTM version with at least a 5.5 would be on my list ASAP.

I have a DDR 5.5 and its cute, but no "bowie" and that is my dream blade so far.

5.5" is still good IMO. Anything over 3" that isn't a SAK/traditional/slippie looks all the same to anti-knife people. I live in the Inland Empire and EDC a M390 Military.

But understandable since anything over 5" becomes fixed blade territory and handles tend to get quite long at that point.

I frequently commute between the IE and LA, and I can tell you that people are even touchier out here in LA. Even small knives tend to make non-knifers jump. I actually had a guy approach me in a restaurant as I was leaving and ask me if I planned on stabbing anyone with my Gunhammer. The look on his face was dead serious, and partly terrified. I don't know if it's because of population density, higher crime-rates, or because there are more ranches out near San Bernardino, but the difference is noticeable to me.

It's also more of a carry preference for me. I have a Cold Steel Large Espada that I absolutely love to bits, but it too is 5.5 inches. The thing is really uncomfortable for me, so I can only bring it with me on days that I wear my 5.11 Taclites with the extra deep pockets.

A 4-inch AXD tanto or Aftermath would be amazing -- but that's just me. Is it weird to admit that I had a dream about owning one last night? :o

I'm pretty sure I've had a dream or three about owning my custom Gunhammer. None of these dreams included rhinestones. Not a single one.

I'm with Bleed on all counts. This is pretty close to the only tanto folder I'd ever consider owning, let alone actually wanting. If it's comparably priced to the GH, I'd probably buy one in an instant. I'm also stuck with 3.5", although I may get a few larger ones just for around the house and such.

That guy sure has tact. My guess is he's never actually met a real BG before, and if he did, he'd learn fast that staying quiet can be a good idea.

To be fair, I've rarely use it around strangers, and discreetly as possible. Except one time, there was a secretary where I was working, but she was Filipino and she actually owned a traditional balisong when she was younger.

But I do think this knife fear is quite annoying.

I used to carry a fullsize BM Rukus. Was quite long, and it didn't take long before I found alternatives. I don't have any mega long folders at the moment, but I imagine carrying one clipped would be like trying to pocket carry my MT Makora II.
