The Stretch has quite a following which is why I was surprised to find a SuperBlue sprint still available at a online retailer for $110 last month. Mine is kind of tight and isn't a perfect example but the ergos are awesome and the steel is one of the best non stainless IMO. I just wish it wasn't coated.
Another Stretch fan here! I'd love to get one of the ZDP/Brown G-10 models, but I've picked up too many other toys lately and probably should figure out which to keep and which to pass on. But my regular ol' FRN/VG-10 has been my regular carry for some two years. I mix things up with something else from time to time (more regularly now), but always have the Stretch ready. I very highly prefer it to the Endura, actually, so much so that I sold my Enduras years ago!
I'm pretty sure I was among the first hundred or so people to buy a Stretch when the original stainless and Kraton version came out in 2004. Snagged the second one I saw listed on eBay (only because somebody beat me to the BIN button for the first one). There's been a Stretch in my pocket almost every day since that one arrived, because I've yet to find a knife that feels more like a natural extension of my hand. I've purchased every production version that's come out since, had a couple customized including one of the new G-10 Stretch 2's, and was honored to receive a "factory custom" bolstered one as a gift. These days, the only time there isn't a Stretch in my pocket is when I have to venture inside the Greenville city limits, where there's a 3" blade limit.
Three of my favorites...
Left to right:
VG-10 original SS/Kraton VG-10 version, rebuilt with lignum vitae scales over titanium liners by STR (Steve Rice)
VG-10 Spyderco factory custom with cocobolo scales behind stainless bolsters
ZDP-189 Stretch 2, customized with textured black palm scales by SKETCHENSCALES (Steve Ketchen)
A lot of people rave about certain knives. The PM2, the Manix2, a Sage, etc... Stretch 2 is the ultimate EDC and woods backup folder for me. I guess I better stress the "for me". I just love that knife!
The only Stretch I have is a Sprint Blue Nishijin/Damascus, and it's the smoothest back lock I've ever felt. It fits in the rotation nicely as a going out folder.
I've got a SB user. I picked one up after I saw all the raves about it. It fits my hand incredibly well. On the days when a Delica isn't enough, it's about perfect. The ergos are spot on.
The Stretch is well represented in my EDC rotation and is easily one of my top 5 Spyderco folder models. I'll admit that I was deep into Spyderco's before giving one a try though and it was solely based on looks. Now it looks like greatness to me!
I've either lost, sold or given away all of my Stretch models. I'll pick up another as soon a the Stretch 2 is offered in FRN, VG-10 partially serrated. Till then I'm Stretchless.
I've narrowed my spyderco collection down to 5 knives. I've sold or given away the rest and the stretch in green frn with zpd189 is my favorite spyderco so far, even thought the blade did come with a chip in it.
