Today I decided to edc my 110 for the week, and when I went to sheath it I noticed this on the right rear bolster.

I haven't carried it for about a month, but i don't store it in its sheath so I know that's not the problem .
I have no clue what could've caused this and If anyone has experienced this before and maybe knows what did cause it , I'd love to know so I can avoid it happening again.

BTW it's not something that'll just rub off.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me 👍

Hi Hickory,

Welcome to the Buck forum! I'm not sure what makes that happen, I have had a few Bucks with the black oxidation spots and they are a real bitch to polish off. Once removed most likely you will not see it again.

I would go after it with some Simichrome Polish. It contains strong reducing agents which react with the tarnish. After that, keep a little Renaissance Wax on it.

Can these pepper spots hurt the brass in any way ? Because if not I may just leave them for the character since I don't normally polish my bolsters anyway.

BTW I have posted here in the buck forum occasionally but have tried to stay away the past few months, because I got a Victorinox recruit that I was trying to edc for the rest of the year ( I guess it must've been a bit longer since I've carried the 110 ) and this place always makes me want to edc my buck 110.

The dark oxidation will not hurt the brass just your eyes. Oh, and your 110 was made to be used and is calling to you:thumbup:

I think that is a sneeze patina. ;) I was messing with some rouge buffing compound on some of my knives and it took it all off by hand rubbing it with a cloth very nicely.
Might even be better than brasso.

That was the problem, I was challenging myself to only carry that vic recruit but the beauty of the buck 110 kept tempting me 😉
I'm carrying both right now though because I need the toothpick and tweezers.

Is it weird that I felt a little guilty for neglecting an American classic because I was carrying an import 🤔 ( sort of bitter sweet though because my grandpa loved Victorinox and because both companies are top notch )
