Anyone else fill a 'cart', think better of it, and empty it shortly after?

One thing I like about Blade Forums is learning all the shared experiences that we enthusiasts have, so try this one on for size...

I've got a little change in my pocket from recent gigs I've played and I've been eyeballing an Izula in S35VN with TKC 'standard' length scales since TKC posted the preorders.
I wake up this morning at 5 am, and while I'm still laying there in bed I get a wave of "why not" and fill the cart with exactly those items.
Then I start thinking...
I have the same thing in 1095 already, and I enjoy it.
how many knives is too many?
Christmas is coming and no one has any idea of what to get me.
$120 is best saved for my kid.

So I delete the items from the cart.

Anyone else have this experience?
it was probably the right move, but very unsatisfying.

Frequently, both a regular cart at the store and online. Hell it happened to me last night. Was at target buying a new floor lamp and passed the toy aisle, and got almost all the way to checkout with a Star Wars Imperial Shuttle and decided to put it back, I just don't have the space for it.

Then the other night after much hemming and hawing I decided to go ahead and purchase a specific knife, only to realize it was out of stock. D'oh!!!!

But yeah I'm always going back and forth on whether to buy something. I'm horrible at making decisions. Good thing I'm not president!!!!

Sometimes, oddly, Ill tend to do more in depth research on the item once its added to the cart as opposed to vice versa. More annoying is I will put off buying a quality 800.00 knife bc its 800.00. but then turn around and buy 8, 100.00 knives in a few months time. Ill tell others, buy once-cry-once, and not heed my own advice.

This used to be a big one for me…. “Why buy the hinderer when I can buy basically the same thing in an 0562 AND another 2-3 budget knives with the same money….”
Ended up with a lot of the same stuff in the budget category and very little in the way of a collection.

I find that if I get to the “cart” part of a theoretical purchase I’ve already made the space and used the knife (in my head) and am looking at mods/scales/next step. It’s already bought at that point 👍

Pretty much every time I'm on a knife seller's site or the big South American river site. My "saved for later" list is . . . long.

I see your point. For me, I prefer knives that are less expensive to replace because I'm more likely to use them, and I like a knife more when I use it more.
It's actually one of the selling points of the Izula to me- I could dependably buy one tomorrow if I lost mine today.

I watch the latest acquisitions thread and think to myself "wow I might actually consider robbing some of these people if I knew where they lived."

Its hard when I find a knife I'm ready to drop money on, and then its out of stock and the secondary market is either empty or the prices ridiculous.

In spite of not really like Microtech's, I still want a Jedi Master Ultratech or UTX-85. But $500 plus is way too much.

I don't even empty the cart, most of the time, because I'm probably going to go back and reconsider. Only when I decide I'm definitely not buying do I empty the cart.
I do it with pretty much everything, not just knives.

Every week for knives, ammo, firearms, gear or whatever. I get to thinking "do I need it? is it redundant, will I just flip it, is it cheaper elsewhere, I've had two of that knife before"....blah blah blah on and on in the busy mess that is my head 😆

All the time. Or leave with items still sitting in the cart. It’s much easier to click the “add to cart“ button than the “complete transaction“ button and it’s amazing how much clarity of thought can occur between them.
My email inbox is often filled with the “looks like you forgot something in your cart” emails.

If it's a site to which I have a membership, I put stuff in the Wish List until I either buy or delete. I don't put stuff in the Cart because it's too easy to "inadvertently" hit the Buy button.

My “wish lists” at BHQ & Knifecenter are hilariously long!

But yes, I’ve filled and emptied carts before. I frequently regret the cart dumping though, as when I finally do go back with conviction, what once was there is usually sold out!

I tend to rationalize my purchases by selling something I already own (if it's a "keeper" upon reception).

Basically it's a constant rotation of perpetual justification.. and yes I have sold knives that I absolutely kick myself for in retrospect :(
