i have had a bunch of the various cold steel models and i just don't like them, the rubber handles are irritating to conceal and the rubber guards are worthless defensively, the springs on the voyagers make them a bitch to open with the thumbstud (unless you get the largest models) i just think i'm done with them.

just had to bitch, other people must feel the same way, no ?

Sorry-- Lynn Thompson of Cold Steel is one of the most innovative knife makers around, introducing a host of new designs over the last decade or so and generally raising the bar. Carbon V ranks as one of my top three steels (52100 and VG-10 being the others). Kraton grips can't be beat under tough conditions such as cold, covered with blood and fat, etc. My Voyagers open and close easily one-handed as easy as an old Zippo after thousands of uses, and AUS8 is a highly corrosion resistant, easily sharpened stainless steel that takes and holds a great edge. 'Nuff said.

They make a good working grade knife. I suppose you want a metal guard for a blade on blade dueling encounter-that's not gonna happen these days. The tantos, Black Bear Classic, Tai Pan, Trailmaster, Recon Scout, and R1 should take care of that dilemma anyway(metal guards). I have a med. voyager that flicks just fine.

The SRK and Recon Scout are my best camp knives.

If you really don't like yours, you might want to sell them here at BFC.

I'm completely with Alberta Ed! Nothing to add. Especially my Trailmaster in San Mai III is unbeatable in really rough conditions, and the same is valid for all my Fällknivens in VG-10!

I have never held a CS before, but does Kraton really sucks? I'm thinking of buying a CS San Mai III Master Tanto.

I have a Cold Steel SRK with Kraton handles and I find nothing wrong with it. Maybe Joebe just doesn't like the "rubbery" feel of the handles or maybe he just doesn't like Cold Steel products at all. Hey, there are plenty of other production brands to choose from. ;)
I also own a few old Voyagers and find nothing wrong with them. Lynn Thompson marketing methods are bold and it seems some people take offence to it and are quick to overlook the quality of his products. Personally, I was surprised to see Cold Steel start to offer blades in 420 stainless as well as cheap Swiss Army knockoffs, but I guess times change.

Wow, just out of curiosity, why have there been so many " I hate __________ line of knives dont you" here lately, there has to be a more inteligent way to convey your displeasure with someones products. Cold Steel makes fine working knives, some better than others, I personally like the voyager series the best, but hey I like folders. They have good lock up and smooth actions as long as you keep them clean. Also Im wondering, if you dislike them so much, why do you have so many, did it suddenly jsut dawn on you that you didnt like them. Normally when buying something, it gets played with when i get it, and if I dont like the way it handles after a couple days i return it. If returns are not an option when I buy ( say at a gun or knofeshow) I play with the knife, walk away and come back 30 min later and play with it again to see if I still like then i buy it.
