Anyone else have a knife OCD?

I just figured this out and I feel so much better. Since I was about 6 years old I haven't gone any where with out at least one blade on me. Even if I'm sitting around my house on nothing but shorts I have to have a knife on me.
And I just figured out why. I have a Obsessive Compulisve Disorder (if thats really the right language - disorder) My friends, wife and family have ragged me for as long as I can remember because of it. I mean doesn't every one carry more than one knife on them every day? If you are like me post something to let me know I'm not alone here. Besides most OCD are bad but whats wrong with always being prepared? I guess its the McGeyver in me or something.

Oh, you are most certainly not alone!

I have two knives in my pockets as I type this. In fact there are 6 knives, folder & fixed blades, on the desk in front of me along with 5 watches. To my immediate left are 30+ plus knives of various types and 15 more watches.

So no, there is nothing wrong with you. Me maybe, but not you. :D

I have no clue what you are talking about!
*Hides knives under desk*

No clue at all!
*Hides some more knives*

What's a Spyderco?

A fellers gotta have an interest of some sort, could be lots of things far worse than knives! I obsess about a lot of things myself, but I do believe just about anyone who hangs out on knife internet forums could be considered to be "obsessing" about their knives. It's good reading if you ask me! :p

I think that the line between a passionate hobbyist and one with OCD is very thin indeed. On any given day, I probably cross over and back many times. Prior to knives, it was cigars (I still have about 1500 cigars in storage but smoke less than one a day).

As long as your OCD is under control, and there are medications that can help, I see no harm. Now if your family is homeless and starving because you keep buying Sebbies, then that's something different.:D

I can't count the number of times I purchased knives online in an instant just because of who knows what just to recycle it onto this site or on ebay. I usually break even, but often take a loss.

If I'm not OCD then I'm doing a real good immitation of it. My wife has long gotten used to me carrying three or more knives on me at any given time.

I'll always have a sak on me, and a small classic on the key ring. From then on I'll have a number 7 or 8 Opinel, or a Hackman folder, or my old Hen and Rooster stockman if I'm feeling nostalgic

Did I mention I like barlow's...

uh no um not me, i can stop anytime i want to. I just don't want to right now. but i could, really i could. I've got to go cut something, anything, i'll be back in a minute. later, ahgar

yes, my name is ahgar and I'm addicted to knives.

Well, as I sit here typing (in my home) I am carrying 8 knives. Does that qualify me for fee medicine or something?

Ciao

That's why I like it here, I'm not alone in this sickness.

I even sleep with 3 knives on me. 2 folders and one light fixed. And yet, as nutty as it sounds I STILL feel just a tad under armed, it's just that sleeping with more would be very uncomfortable so I had to draw a line.

If I don't have enough knives on me, and the right knives, then I get that awkward naked feeling. It's been this way since childhood.

I don't know if this really qualifies as OCD, but even if it is some sort of disorder it's not necessarily a bad one.
We're not paranoid, we're prepared. Atleast that's how I explain it to myself.

sounds similar to me, I went through the cigar phase as well, have several hundred in the humidor, but barely smoke one a month anymore since I re-discovered knives

My wife seems to think knives etc. are better for me than roaming the streets aimlessly at all hours talking to strange folks. ;)

Besides, the voices tell me to collect pretty shiny knives:eek:

I started carrying a knife when I was 6 too. I have had at least one knife on me everyday of my life since. They would not let me carry one the 2 months I was in Boot but that is the only exception. I feel out of sorts without a knife so I have knives stashed here there and yonder in case I forget to put one in my pants. I often carry 3 of them.

If I get off without at least one knife on me ; I feel naked. Most of the time I carry 2 folders and a super tool. I just cut back too on my foldes. I was carrying 3. Too many knives and not enough pockets!
