I used to, too I traded it for something stupid,I didn't know what it was worth tool many years later. :(

A highly popular offering back in the day with a well recognized pattern. I had one with a hardwood handle which had been marketed as the Auto-Messer, sort of a survival pattern to be used to break windows in the event of a car accident. The blade was stout and probably close to bullet proof. It was sold off during one of my moves to newer territory and I now sort of wish that I had kept the thing.

The other WH in my collection made it to the hands of a friend who eventually managed to buy the knife after some begging. It was much older than your piece and had a well worn stag handle. Again, some regrets for parting with the old beauty. I do have a few older PUMA knives which I have decided to keep...at least for now. One thing I always liked was the small dot on the blades where they had done the Rockwell testing. If the truth be known and spread out on the coffee table, I'd say these knives were VERY hard as evidenced by the fact that they seemed difficult to field sharpen. Of course, the old PUMA blades are classic and still beloved. Many are probably safe queens that never see the light of day. I hope you keep yours close at hand.

Such a cool knife.

I too foolishly traded one away like T. Erdelyi. In the hopes of making him feel better I'll share my story. The Puma White Hunter I traded away back in the early 1980s was my Dad's. Most likely bought by him while serving in the National Guard as they were popular during the early 1970s. I thought it was a cool knife, but I was unable to sharpen it with my primitive 12 year old sharpening skills. A neighborhood friend of mine I went to middle school with had a nice old leather handled Ka-Bar skinner that he couldn't get sharp. I proceeded to get it scary sharp for him on my little Norton stone. Even sharper than my own knives. So I traded him my Dad's Puma White Hunter for it.

Now I still stink at sharpening recurves, but I'd love to have that knife back. My Dad didn't leave much in this world (5 felony trips to jail), but it would be nice to have a knife he carried.

I bought this in the early 90's and it has been in the safe since, only take it on now and then to admire. Later this summer I probably will put it up on the exchange when I thin out the heard.

I didn't have that one, but my first fixed blade was a Puma Hunter's Pal.

Got it soon after my first job in high school back in 1977.
Bought a Puma Deer Hunter lockback about the same time, and in the later 80's I traded both in on a Colt Diamondback .22LR.
A few years later I traded the Diamond back in on a S&W model 41(.22LR).

Man, do I wish I still had the Puma's and the Diamondback !!!
From reading above it seems many of us wish we had our old Puma's back.

I have two Puma White Hunters and three Puma Bowie Knives. I also have six Olsen OK Brand Matching Throwing Knives. If any interest I would trade. I just signed up tonight and want to be active in trading or buying.

Not a White Hunter, but I've got an old Hunter (or bowie, can't remember-too lazy to open the safe) that my dad got as a gift back in the 70's. Never used. Very fine tool though.

Alenyart, you need to upgrade your membership to Gold. Then you can post knives for sale, find out values on knives, etc. Your post is essentially a for sale or trade offer which you are not permitted at your level.

I bought a new one in 1971 for about $25. That was a lot of money to pay for a knife at the time but I had worked a lot of OT so I could afford it. Unfortunately there was an unseen defect in the knife--a small crack under the stag panels--that led to the knife breaking in half when dropped on the floor several years later. I contacted the importer, sent them the broken knife and they sent a new one as part of their warranty. That was in 1975. I still have that knife. It's pretty beat up now with scratches and scars and the sheath is pretty nasty. I still treasure it.
