Anyone else have Elmax rust?

I picked up a kershaw speedform 2 to try some elmax and so far I have only used it 4 times and not getting it wet or using it for food it is developing maybe the most rust out of any steel except my kershaw one ton. Anyone have issues with elmax doing this? Or Kershaws in general? I do live in Monterey, California and it's on the coast but not even my d2 knives or zdp knives are doing this and I have used them for food prep. Any help would be nice.

I've never had rust on any of my Elmax knives. The only rust I've ever had on a blade was on a fixed blade custom that was left in its sheath. I've even taken different knives fishing with me, or to the beach. Simple maintenance is all I've taken to keep my knives corrossion-free.

I try and wipe my knives down and maintain them everyday. I haven't started using any oil yet though, would this help? Or storing my knives open? I'm just confused because I heard elmax was very good with resisting rust and corrosion. This takes my back to my idea of wanting a blade like kershaw does with 2 steels, the cutting edge being m390 while the rest of the blade is h1 and the internals are titanium. You can only dream I guess :)

Sometimes it's the atmosphere and other times it can be the oil from your skin. I would recommend wiping it down with oil after you get the rust off. There are many to choose from, and even other products that dry into a protective film. I have even seen people use vegetable oil for edc's that are used in food prep. I am sure others are more knowledgable than me about all the different oils.

So am I just a failure at knife maintenance? Haha. And I will post pictures when im back home because it actually seems noticeably worse every day.

Not sure because all I do to my stainless knives is wipe down after use, no oil or anything of that sort. Maybe the knife came in contact with something corrosive?

If it came in contact with iron or carbon steels particles that can cause rust . All manufacturing ,cutting machining , grinding , buffing operations for stainless should be done on equipment reserved for stainless only !! Take a new piece of abrasive paper and carefully polish the blade and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for all the responses. I pretty much have only used it to cut open a few boxes and a little rope and I store it with all my other knives the same way so it just made me curious why only elmax, 8cr13mov, and vg10 all developed rust the same places and about the same time. I store my m390, zdp, cpm-154, s30v, d2 and many other in the same exact box with no issues and I use most of those for work and I'm around all sorts of corrosive stuff. Maybe I will just start oiling all my knives do to me being 1 mile from the beach.

 WHERE on the blade did it rust? ELMAX is 18% Chromium with uniform distribution, it should be MUCH less rust prone than all but the M390 & ZDP-189 of those listed...

My issues with rust on various stainless has had one common theme......bead blast finish. I've had various stainless steels rust that didn't rust when satin, stone washed, or polished finished.

Not sure on your problem op, but here in the swamp the humidity is sky high and bead blast finishes are guaranteed rust magnets for me regardless of steel.

Ya that's why I'm shocked, but I can't get to a computer for uploading a pic until a little later the rust started at the top of the spine where the blade meets the handle when open and runs towards the tip.
