Anyone else have this problem? (what knife to use...)

One of the problems with EDC'ing multiple knives is i have to decide what knife to use to open packages, i have a choice of my 3 EDC blades, a Native, a Jester, and a Cricket....

so, which knife do i use for opening, oh lets say, an antistatic RAM bag?

the Native's my "big jobs" EDC, it'd be overkill for a simple antistatic bag, so it comes down to the Jester or Cricket.....

hmm, Jester, or Cricket...

both are scary-sharp and would make short work of the antstat bag, both would be equally fun to use, what to do, what to do....

i know, i'll drop them *both* into my pocket, and the first one i grab gets used....

the Jester....

so, how do *you* solve the "which one do i use" dillemma? anyone else have this "problem?"

I often go through this daily. I always want to pick "the best" just in case something happens.

I haven't solved it yet. I just try to use the knife that is most comfortable to use and so far that's been my Benchmade 707 PE.

Don't flame me, but I find that I use the scissors of my SAK more than my knives I carry. So, no, I don't have this problem.

Absolutely:D For most things, for me, it's either my Delica or Mini-Grip. If I need really pointy, it's the Delica, otherwise the mini-grip. Ka-Bar/Dozier folding hunter if I'm opening boxes, scraping, etc. These are my "givens":) After that, it can be up in the air - I also usually carry a Spydie Cento III, BM530 and Camillus Blaze as well. Tough decision on sandwiches:) Smaller stuff - decision then becomes Meerkat or Dragonfly. And then, there's knocking down server boxes - Al Mar SERE 2K or Rescue 93mm this week. Other times, it's been paramiltary/Heat:)

Yup - it can be tough.

I usually use my manix for pretty much everything. But when it comes to slicing open cardboard boxes i tend to use the serrated blade on my leatherman

Carry fewer knives?

I carry two on me all the time and they both have distinct purposes. The large folder clipped on my right pocket is there to cut anything that needs cutting. At the bottom of my left pocket is a Vic Soldier, its blade is for food prep and it has a few tools if I need a screw driver for something. Simple set up, not a lot of extra weight and no struggling to find the right knife for the job.

The rule is, the one hand folder in the right pocket cuts everything but food, and the Soldier cuts nothing but food.

I think it's kinda pointless to carry extra knives around, especially for all these silly sheeply concerns. "I have to have a smaller knife so the big one doesn't scare people!" Whatever... if it's really a concern, just carry the smaller one and drop the big one. But whatever floats the boat I guess.

YESSSS I started ECD'ing just one knife @ a time because of this. Right now it is my VIC Farmer. I know what you are talking about though. :D
