I have the free version of AVG anti virus software and more often than not when it tries to download an update it fails to connect. Is anyone else having this problem?

This is usually just because the server for the free edition is like a second class erver, and can get bogged down. So basically if it is getting slammed with a lot of people at once you won't be able to update. Keep trying, and eventually it will work.

I remember some tweak for the original version that allowed you to connect to the main servers, which always give faster service. I will see if I can find it, and if it will still work.

I've been updating daily for months and it's only failed to connect once. Maybe you could try a different time of day? I usually do it around noon eastern time.

Yeah, I get a failure to connect occasionally. I keep meaning to set the scheduler to some early-morning time slot.

I let it automatically update and I've only got one once. I think that was because I was in too much of a hurry and didn't give it enough time to complete.

check your firewall. the only one time I had a failure to connect, it was my firewall stopping the program.

I looked up and found the old trick to get more servers, but it doesn't work with the new version.

I would suggest checking the firewall if you are never able to connect. Also try at different times of day, as sometimes it could just be a busy time. Lastly I would say just set it to do automatic updates, and then just set it to update the next time you connect if a prior attempt fails.

I've got mine set to update at 08:00 and it hasn't failed yet. A few times I didn't boot up until 10:00 or 11:00 and it still worked fine.

I've had some problems connecting for the last few days. This morning, however, I hooked up & downloaded a huge (4 meg?) update.

Patience. It's still the best product at the best price!
