I've had a modded out Trailhawk I take camping with me for a long time and I just ordered a new Rifleman's hawk to replace it. Anyone else like these things? I don't use them to cut down big trees or anything, but for bone splitting and some other general chores, they're easier to use than an axe. Not to mention they are fun as hell to throw... especially after a few beers to get that aim straight. ;)

Edit:
It's more of a fun novelty tool for me. For every chore this thing can do, I have a knife, axe, or machete that can do better. They're just fun to use.

i have a CS trailhawk... they're not bad, especially for the price... they're great for throwing too...

I have a trailhawk and it is a good light trail axe that appeals to the mountain man in me.
My favourite for throwing is the norse hawk. With the wide blade and sharp raised top point it is the best throwing axe I have. I have 3 so I don't have to walk back and forth.
The cold steel spetznaz shovel is the most fun to throw, very accurate, hits really hard with 3 sharp edges that get scary with a little work.
The shovel is so handy for clearing brush and as emergency axe as well as the obvious. I have given one to all my buddies with 4 by 4 trucks and atv's and everybody loves them.
Essential truck gear with multiple purposes not to mention self defense.
No self respecting Spetznaz would be caught digging a hole with his combat shovel, they are mobile first strike and the shovel was designed for them.
Easier to explain to police in a truck because it is an obvious working tool. You don't have to carry "a glove and ball" with a bat.

I know a lot of people have their opinions of Cold Steel but I will say this: Lynn Thompson has always treated me good, and their SRK was on my side a long time before I ever made the first trip to a jungle.

I love my SRK. It's a comfortable and nearly indestructible piece of work. Good sheath, too. CS does a good job with polymer molding. I'm pretty sure I own something from just about every one of their assorted product lines. Even a war club. :o

Ive got a CS Trailhawk and it awesome. I use it in the backyard for yard work and such. I am in the process of modding it a little bit. I just thinned out the edge a little bit and she is pretty sharp but I am still trying to get her to shave hair.

Your right, they are fun as hell to throw. And im getting real good at it, I just seem to have a problem getting them to stick in the log. HAHA!!:)

I'll be using mine this weekend to remove jaw bones and paws. I plan to bring back a lot of trophies from this weekend's hunt. I'm hoping for some new tusks, koyote teeth and claws, rodent skulls, and some feathers. The Trailhawk works well for just hacking the jaws apart and the paws off. I can do all the clean up work with the dremel when I get home.

I have a norse that I abuse the piss out of, and it holds up well. They require some "tuning" when you get em, but its a fun cheap project, and they are well made.

I did just scoreme a coal creek forge one off the exchange that im pretty stoked to get. I love hawks. Fun to throw, and chop well.

I use a trail hawk, or a half dozen. (I throw them, too)

square off the hammer face and waffle it, thin the edge a bit, and it's a hell of a tool to have around

I had one of the hawks, until I gave it to my brother. I am going to buy a shovel as soon as I get some $. Started working again this week, should have one soon. Will try and get a Digi cam for pics.

I have never had a Cold Steel hawk but I own a few Fort Turners. When I'm out and about I prefer to carry a small thin bladed knife and a hawk. An RC-3 and a hawk, the perfect combination.

I got Rifleman a few months ago, and I am sorry to say, it is sitting unused still. :/ I like the overall size and feel of it, but other then that..... nadda.

HOPE to be able to swing some time off and get out and use it and a few of my Rats! :)

I have a rifleman's hawk I bought about 13 or 14 years ago and have cut down all sizes of trees with it. Of course it gets a little heavy when using on a large tree. No complaints with it though.

After reading this thread.... I went out today and purchased a trailhawk. Sounds like fun and now with the income tax refund on the way I'm thinking a Izula might be a nice addition when I pay for my RC-5 along with the new puppy.:D

I have a CS Recon Scout. One of the best knives I've owned for the money (besides my RC-4 ;) ) Its basically the little brother of the Trail Master which is also a very good survival knife.

I plan on getting one of those shovels. Seems like a very versatile tool, dig, chop, hammer, etc.

I did the same thing. Picked up a Trail haw a few hours ago after reading this thread. I've handled one before and wanted one but this thread pushed me over the edge. After lunch I'm going to sit down and design a slip cover or belt sheath for it.

Got a forged French Style hawk for my birthday last year and think this Trail hawk will make it a good companion. ;)

OMG.... its happening again!!

As if I didn't have enough places to spend money. Now I find myself hanging out in the Hawks forum... Pricing Chris Barr Damascus hawks. This could be very bad.

Hey Jeff or Mike... Ever give any thought to a Rat-Hawk?

I've got a few customs, too. Thing is, the CS trail hawk is such a well perfoming inexpensive tool, I've had a hard time figuring out what to replace it with. I mean, I know what i'd like- slightly longer ears, another 3/8 on the cutting edge, slightly thinner and better steel, and a proper hammer face forged out a bit wider, but using the same amount of material. 1/4 each direction would make it a LOT more usable.
