Anyone Else Interested in the `Gator Tool?

Jedi - AFAIK no new news from Gerber on these. I'm interested in getting one too and so is shootist16 (Dennis). If I hear anything new I'll post it here.

Dexter is right, I am very excited about this one. Looks like a real winner.

I am very interested to see how long the screwdrivers are. That was my onl complaint about the scrwedrivers on the Multi-Lock. Other than the length, they were much better than Leatherman's, as they locked and were ground on both sides.

This one looks like a winner, though, to me it looks like the palms swells should be on the outside when the pliers are open, not visa versa. Anyone else notice this? Of course, not seeing the tool up close, I have no idea how it really works...

Did anyone else notice the handle metal was stated to be a "lightweight alloy"? Provided it was strong enough, this could really be a big improvement over some of the other multi-tools.

Hey Kris!

Definitely borrows some from the Wave, but makes significant improvements. Locking screwdrivers are a must!

To be perfectly honest, I don't really care is if a multi-tool has a one-hand opening blade or not. For that matter, it doesn't need to have a blade at all.

One thing I do have to say is that Leatherman's scissors are about the best out there and I like them much better than Gerbers.

I want one too. I think gerber has a conspiracy against me. I bought their original tool and not long after that they came out with the multi lock. Then last summer I bought a multi lock, and they came out with the gator jaws. I'm thinking I won't wait for the multi lock to wear out like I did with the original (which I gave up on wearing out after 4 years)I'll just get one of those so I can switch back and forth everyday. The only drawback is the suggested price

Oh HELL ya...the new Gerber looks to be the new king of the hill.

The blade length is enough for defense, in a pinch...the tool combination is excellent, and it'll take the hex bit adapter and bits I've collected for my old pre-lock Gerber.

Absofreakinlutely, it's almost certainly worth even list, especially if the blade steel is decent. ATS-34 would be a nice improvement.

Also good to see the Wave has a hex-bit adaptor, FINALLY.

I like the idea of a renewable carbide wire cutter as well. That makes good sense to me.

This is one of the things that I really like about the Gator Jaws. While the Multi-Locks are great tools, I found the wire cutters to be sub-par, as they would easily deform a bit when cutting chicken wire or welding wire. I think Gerber got the idea for the replaceable cutter inserts from machining tools like end mills and boring bars which rely on TiN coated carbide inserts to do the actual cutting and effective chip evacuation. The Gator Jaws probably have the best wire cutters of all the multi-tools.

My old Gerber still has a ding from when I tried to cut the firing pin of a Browning HiPower my crazy roomie from years ago had access to.

Note to all: do a "bend and snap" on firing pins. They're hard as hell but they're brittle.

And yes, I really did this. The moron never knew it had been reduced to "paperweight status".
