Hi guys & gals!
I´m just curious if anyone of you like the Vic Deluxe Tinker? I work in an office enviroment - used to carry a LM Wave for many years. But I found out, that I just need the Deluxe Tinker with its small size that I use to carry in my Maxpedition Jumbo EDC. For pocket carry it´s just too big, imo. In an office enviroment I don´t carry the tool on the belt with a sheath.
I like the pliers the most - plain awesome!! The scissors are useful as well.
All in all it´s the bag-tool I gonna carry for many years, I think
Andi,
I think you are on the right track with the idea of a bag-carry tool.
I live a suburban life with occasional excursions to the wild places. For my day to day life, I find my access to tools goes through 3 distinct steps:
1) I want it now and it's on my person
2) I can stop for a minute and fetch my bag to get the tool I need
3) I will take the project to my shop or my tool box to the job.
I find tools in the size range of the Deluxe Tinker to be too big for EDC pocket carry. I've looked long and hard at the Leatherman Juice, which in comparable in size and weight and for me and my pockets, it's just too much.
My pocket carry is an Opinel N9 in the RFP (light, reasonably large blade) and a Leatherman Micra in the LFP (pen blade, scissors, small tools, light and thin). So... this means that if I need pliers, I've moved to at least level 2 in my tool quest - off to find my pack. My EDC pocket carry deals with 99.9% of the issues I face in that first, I need to deal with this now mode. The things that drive me to my pack are the need for pliers (occasionally), a metal file (less common), hard to turn screws and a small saw (rare, but it happens).
Like you, I found the Wave to be too much. It's heavy and clunky. Mine now sits on my work bench and gets used often there.
When, like you, I figured out that I was looking for a pack-carry tool, I knew I needed to cover pliers, file, saw and screw drivers. I've got big hands and soon figured out that the Juice was just too small. I also wanted locking tools.
I found happiness in an used Leatherman Blast. It's full sized but noticeably lighter than the Wave by about 2 ounces. I wouldn't hold the Blast up as a day in/day out burly construction job tool, but it is full sized and offers locking tools. It's 2 ounces more than the Juice or Deluxe Tinker but, for me, the trade of is well worth it.

Glad the Deluxe Tinker does the same for you. All this to say that I think the idea of a pack carry tool is a great way to think about a tool. Oh... It's a pack. Not a man purse. Right?
