since last night the power has been going out. the longest time was over an hour. its went out 3 times already this morning but came back on minutes later. i hope i get this post in before it goes out again :D

Yes, Last night my power was out for about 9 hours, A couple of weeks ago it was out for about 5 days due to the ice storm.

Lost mine last night for a short time. It went out last saturday because of the wind too.

Guess thats what I get for living in a house built in the 50's. Luckily I've never gone more than 24 hours without power in the eight years I've been here.

Brief blackout Thursday morning and again around 03:00 Friday.
Frickin' frackin' power company. I'm putting in my own nuclear reactor.

No need to go nuclear, I went to a whole house natural gas generator with auto transfer switch, never without power over 12 seconds. :):D

Coincidently, I'm getting brief brownouts now.
I'm going to shut down and go outside and watch the rain. :(

This might be a good time to mention that battery backups are cheap and getting cheaper these days. If you don't have one, look into it. Your hard drive will thank you.

Well actually it won't, but it'll live longer.

Generators aren't fast enough to prevent damage. And remember, the battery backup is usually only meant to give you some time to save and shut down.

Losing power from high winds? That's a novel concept. Luckily, I live in western Kansas, where we never have high winds. Just yesterday, we had the highest winds in the state at 52 mph sustained and gusts to 62 mph. Another fifteen or twenty mph and it might have gotten rough. We usually don't start losing power lines until it hits 90.

All my audio visual equipment as well as computers are on Battery backups plus the surge protectors. They do hold for 12 seconds every time.;)
