Anyone else pick up the 119 Arvensis? What do you think of the sheath?

I picked one up last week. Its a fantastic knife, and I do like the sheath. My only criticism (at least a potential one) is with the belt attachment that goes on the sheath. It seems a bit flimsy for such a large blade. I thought about putting a Tek Lok on it, but I don't think it will fit properly. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Spec Ops sheath. 😄

Never mind the stock sheath...Spec Ops products would be a wonderful match for the 119. That knife deserves something better in both looks and performance.

In all seriousness though, the stock sheath is well thought out and manufactured. Keeping in mind the street price being around $170.00, the knife and the sheath will have some compromises to keep the cost down. The regular buyer will be happy with the sheath, the pickier buyers (knife guys) are already planning on putting it in another sheath.

I prefer the Spec Ops or a nice custom leather sheath. Different carry systems for different needs. :)

This is the thread I keep coming back to the Benchmade subforum to look for. I want more info on the Sheath. Forget the attachment system. How is the actual sheath? Does the knife click in place? So many BM sheaths have failed because the are weird in how the knife is retained, IMO. I know the attachment system well. It is on many other products, especially SOGs. While it is not complete crap it is not up to the standard or price of the knife IMO. Benchmade way over sold it as "an innovative sheath attachment feature that allows for integration with almost anything". Pure BS. So what else can the sheath be attached to? I prefer an Esee 5/6 clip plate. I've had several spec ops sheaths, even excellent sheaths from spartan, but I prefer good kydex. If this knife gets crushed by the cost or price of adding another sheathing option I don't know if I will consider it. Damn thing looks great. Hopefully more info, solutions, or mods will come out about the sheath/and/or attachment.

There are several YouTube videos that will give you a good idea of the size and overall look. I think an ideal sheath would be the one that comes with the Nimravus. I believe Eagle Industries makes them for Benchmade. Nylon outside, lined Kydex insert, and a few color choices. The street price seems quite reasonable for what you get considering similar size production knives from Chris Reeve and Spartan are going to be double the price.

I've had the 3 different nimravus sheaths. The "kydex" was a complete fail with the gimmick lock feature. The Nylon was not bad but doubled the size impact of the knife, the carbon fiber thing that came with the cub was limited at best. I know what the Spartan nylon sheaths cost. I don't like the Spartan nylon sheaths though they are better than the spec ops IMO. All my Spartans have the kydex sheaths which are top of the line. Seems that if you are a kydex guy like myself the vote is still out on this BM sheath. In the least you will need a new attachment because the old American SportsMan does not seem up to the task IMO. Something to consider I guess.

Fast forward to 5.11 on this video. Dude tries to call this a new attachment system. And look how far it places the knife from your body. I have at least a half dozen of these from SOG and while they work I consider them substandard. I'd expect more given the claim and price.

Exactly, or some custom leather pants or a nice Kydex rig from one of the many folks on here wold do just fine.

Certainly. I still wish the price included such a sheath +attachment. That said, the stock sheath could be just fine (minus attachment). I'll be curious to see what other people come up with in more reviews! The knife itself looks fantastic.

Benchmade may end up changing it based on feedback. If it gets a lot of negative flak then I can't see them keeping it that way. A while back someone was concerned about dirt getting in there through the loop, not an issue for me personally but I can see that would be a negative aspect for some. Not a deal breaker for the price, that is a nice chunk of 154CM.

Just ordered mine yesterday. Very much looking forward to it. It will be my first Benchmade fixed blade. I'm curious as to how it will compare with my Becker / Ka-Bar, Cold Steel fixed blades that I mostly have.

From everything I've seen so far I'm expecting to really like this knife!

Now the wait begins...

Looking forward to hearing what you think, especially of the sheath system.

Will do. When it comes to sheaths my tastes are pretty straight forward. I like simple, reliable, and secure with easy carry. I can tell you already I think the sheath system for this model is a bit "busy" for me but we'll see. I'm hoping it's most basic configuration will work for me, and think it will.

I'll be sure to let you know what I think once I have it and get to try it out a bit.
