Anyone else play the Trumpet?

I can't say I ever played one very well. I carried a trumpet for two years in our high school marching band before I quit it to play football. Sometimes I think I should have stayed with the trumpet. Lots of girls on the band bus versus zero girls on the football players' bus.

I played the cornet and trumpet for 3 years before transitioning over to tubas and sousaphones. Played those for 7 years in high school and college (Aggie Band). I sold both my cornet and my trumpet when I changed over and the schools provided the tubas/sousaphones. I also played baritone for the the Corps of Cadets (A&M) Drum and Bugle Corps for two years. Never got around to saving up enough to buy a upright tuba.

My favorite tuba story is that I transposed "Flight of the Bumblebee" to Bass Clef and I would play it as my warm-up piece while waiting for solo competitions. It would freak out some of my competition, and since I almost invariably went last due to alphabetical ordering, many of them would screw up in some manner, allowing me to look better when it was my turn to play for the judges. TFOB was not an authorized tuba competition piece :p so I never played it for a real competition, but my senior year in high school, one of the judges asked me to play it for them as he had heard bits and pieces of it over the previous 3 years.

Tennis is a co-ed sport. My football buddies thought I was chicken... Little did they know.

I'm envious of musicians. I can sing, though I'm just a parrot mimicking sound. I've no idea what the notes, keys, etc. are.

I've tried to learn on my own, but I think I'm going about it the wrong way. Learning chords on a guitar doesn't stick for some reason. I think it's because I don't understand why the chords are the chords. Pretty sure I'm going to have to learn music before I can learn the instrument. Or at least, learn them simultaneously.

Edit: I really wish there was more brass in popular music. I love it.

Yep! Playing since I was 9, 32 now! Played in marching band in HS, some of my fondest memories. Still bust it out for my wife once in a while. Love my silver Stradivarius!
