I'm sitting here right now looking at 3 cases, 2 bucks and a boker.
All three cases have gaps and play in the blades, and one blade is misaligned
2 bucks have scratches and weird whachumacallits on the knife,
The boker has gaps, scuffed bolsters and a poorly glued on shield. That one cost 167 usd before shipping
Either seems like apathy is spreading far and wide, or maybe I'm haunted.
Sorry no photos at the moment
Anyone else suffering from "eh good enough" QC?

Boker Solingen have all been spectacular except for one minor issue with frayed micarta around a shield.
Case has been more of an issue for me. Some excellent, some OK, and a smaller number (but higher % than it should be IMO) unacceptable.
I have had too many issues with special runs from Buck that now I skip them unless it’s really something I want.

I've bought too many Cass knives that showed up unpredictable. I should have known better, it may be that they don't know how to make knives anymore
Bucks show up scratched a lot of the time, even from them directly. A while back i got a boker barlow in O1, with acid wash, so very dull. Couldnt fix it. SAK has always been consistent, only problem ever in the 20+ years of sak buying is slight play in the bottle opener of a bantam
i am a bit amused with this phenomenon honestly.

What sort of Case knife and what are the gaps? Depending on the specific issue it may be something that can be fixed.

It’s no secret that Case has QC issues, but when you consider the method of manufacture and the volume they crank out I think they generally do a pretty good job. That said, I still won’t buy one outside of an in-person retail setting. I want to be able to inspect it first.

I’ve been disappointed with Case for a long time. Ever since I learned that all throughout their rich history they always pinned their shields. Then started glueing them on in the mid to late 1970’s.

That might not be a problem for the average user but us knife enthusiasts are offended by lower quality at a higher price. Not a good move in the knife industry in my opinion.

Stuff like that is a recipe for eventual bankruptcy.

Two small stockmans, both have one blade that is visibly wobbly, a second so misaligned that three third knife sticks out. I'm interested in this trend with small stockmans.
Perhaps they need to slow down, the world isn't swallowing their knives whole.
