Anyone else use two razors for each shave?

I shave with a Rolls Razor, but there are places around my mouth and chin where I'm unable to get a close shave. So I always pull out a Mach 3 disposable to finish up. The Mach 3 stays sharp for weeks in this limited roll.

Perhaps I'll become skilled enough one day to dispense with the Gillette.

I have used two different DE razors in one shave before, but it wasn't because one performed better in certain areas than the other, it was to compare the razors head to head. I do how ever bump up the adjustment on my slim with each pass so that the razor is more aggressive on the final pass.

Sometimes when I don't have a lot of time I'll do one pass with a straight and a second pass with a DE. This is much quicker than a several passes with a straight and the shave is pretty good and the DE blade lasts a good while.

When I DE shave I clean up the straight lines of my chops with a Dovo shavette. It's a lot easier to get a crisply defined line that way.

Billy, I use my Rolls at times and have done what you describe as well. In time I got better with the Rolls and didn't need the twin blade Gillette. I think this is a normal phase a shaver goes thru. To achieve a real good shave using a DE, saftey razor or straight takes time and working thru the learning curve. Try little tricks along the way to find what works. ie. shaving w/ a downward stroke for the whole shave, a little more time stropping on fine leather, more stone time, gels or soap, ect.. For me to get a real close shave with a Rolls everytime took me using it for about a year. DM

I've got a big nose and find the area right under it a bit difficult with a DE, so a cartridge gets in there to reach the places other razors cannot reach...

I have an adjustable razor, the Merkur Futur. Which means I can switch between very aggressive and very mild with just one razor. I am currently doing a two-pass shave daily, and I am very happy with it and with the Futur. For the first pass, a fairly aggressive shave (3.5 on the Futur dial). For the second pass, a very close and safe setting (lowest setting "1" on the Futur dial).

My setup is TOBS Lavender, Merkur Futur, Vulfix 2234, and Astra Supers (green/Russian)

My razor is an adjustable as well, but for me it's a precision issue.

I chop it down with a straight and clean it up with a DE. I get to play with both every day this way.

I'm with you. My technique with the Rolls has advanced so that it covers everything except just beneath my nose - still use a Mach 3 disposable for that.

This is one thing the gillette fusion is actually good at, the single edge detail trimmer on the back of the cartridge is fantastic for getting under the nose area.

I had to use 2 today... I just can't get my straights as sharp as DEs for a comfortable shave...
