Greetings you all:)

Just the other day I altered the blade of my Yellow Case CV Sodbuster Jr.
When I got it, the tip of the blade stuck slightly above the handle.
Because of this and the fact that I don't like the shape of the standard Soddies(I always fooled aound with those Herders back when I was younger:p) I took the knife to the grinding wheel of the grinder of my late Dad on the attick of my Mom's and carefully made a sort of small clip point shape out of the tip of the blade.

Now the tip sits way deeper into the handle and I like the shape better.

Anyone else did a similar thing?

Pictures woule be great.

As soon as I'm back at my girlfriends, I will try and take a webcam pic of mine.

Thanks for reading:thumbup:

I had a peanut that the blade stuck up a bit. A little file work to the kick of the blade solved it.

I haven't altered mine, but I think it's a good idea.

A little bit more of a pointy blade would make the soddie perfect.

Not long after I get a sodbuster, I secure the blade in a vise, and use a large mill smooth file to drop the point a bit in a shallow sort of clip point. I also do this with Opinels as well. Makes them a bit more useful.

I did the same thing. See the black soddie below:

The pointier blade on that sodbuster Elliot together with filing a little to get a shallow clippoint gives me some ideas. Im not be doin to much of eather as I think it to be useful as it is... but.... And this week I will go moosehunting and has two big motordriven grindingwheels on the farm.!!

That is a great idea.

Many years ago my grandpa ( my Dad's dad ) was walking in Roeding Park , he found a black Case Sodbuster. He gave it to me a few years later. Like a numbut I lost it... I've been toying with the idea of buying one to replace it since but I have gotten into the haibt of asking myself if I will use and carry the knife often enough to justify buying it and that ends that , until I see a too good a deal to pass up :D

As much as the yellow is handsome , the black handle is just sooo classic.

Nice mods guys !

As you can see both blades on this one have been modded, one into a clip, the other into a spey thus creating the Trapbuster. Both are now hollow ground as well and the nail nicks have neen cut through ala Scagel.

Keith Johnson is going to build me a custom with a "spey" blade like the one you are showing. I was looking at a Moore Maker that Elliot had posted with a fine profile spey blade and decided right then it would make a beauty of a Sodbuster. It will look a lot like that black one in your picture. I like that a lot. Maybe enough to hit Lowe's again and try it for myself. (But, Keith is still going to make that custom because I want him to make a knife for me and that's all I've got to say about that.)

I had a black handled Sodbuster many years ago and I thought it had a CV blade. I may be mistaken. I wish I knew where that knife got off to.
