Just saw a post on the Busse forum about a guy who took a Dremmel multi tool to a Basic 7, he sharpened the top edge and grinded a thumb notch in it. End result was quite cool, I am now thinking of buying a Basic 5 and doing some alterations??? I have a Basic 7 and I think it is fine but i would love to try my hand at this...

Anyhow did anyone ever try this before and what did it turn out like, be honest if it was a disaster...

LOL LOL LOL!!!

Hunting?
Don't be a wise guy!
What d'ya hunt with a knife?
Name it!

I have a Dremel handtool and use it quite a bit. I actually sharpened the false edge on my bali with one and than buff the whole thing again with the diamond disk. Does quite a good job at it, but i suggest you do a feel test blades first. The tool is kinda hard to control at first, but after awhile you get use to the pressure needed for proper control. Too much pressure result in deep cuts and often bad scratches, too light get you a whole lot of scratching. Try it, it's sure is fun.

Alter a knife ... oh, you mean intentionally?

Be careful with the dremel. It and home grinding machines are the single biggest cause of knife obliteration. If the heat builds up you could easily change the temper.

If you want the false edge sharpened I am sure that one of the makers on this site would be happy to help you do it right.

Edge! Stop!Desist!
Buy 3 or 4 cheapo Pakistani knives and practice, practice, practice.
As was said, you have to get the feel for it. Too much pressure and the Dremel slides off doing all kinds of damage. Also the problem with heat.
