sprung for the full "pro" version of the Edge Pro?

I've been looking at them both and it "seems" like the full-on apex with all the goodies will do all I'd ever want (save scissors of course). But I can't help but wonder if there is something that I would be missing if I did not have the "pro". You know, some sort of adjustability, repeatability, features etc...

What are your thoughts?

Probably better off going to knifeforums.com and asking QuietOne and Chico why they have the Pro version.

how long do those water stones last?

when i get the Edgepro apex, Im going for the full kit.

Do they last for years like the sharpmaker stones?

Holla

The extra coarse stone will wear fast but the higher grit stones wear slow.

How slow? Days? Months? Years? Decades?

The reason i ask is because i dont want to spend $14 for replacement stones after (let's say) 2-4months of sharpening.

I bought an Apex 4 a couple of weeks ago, and had them add an additional 120 grit stone. I have re-profiled about five knives and sharped around fifteen more. Six of the knives I sharpened are Dozier D2. I have not seen significant wear on any of my stones yet, but have the 120 just in case.

Depends on how many knives you sharpen. For the typical home user your finer stones should last a few years. My 120 began to dish in a big way before I knew enough to flatten. I still have some stone left but I don't use my EP much anymore after 2 years. Playing with glass stones and hand sharpening at the moment.

Don't spend $14 for a mounted stone.

Buy just the stone, and a can of 3M super 77 spray glue and mount your own.

The old stone comes off easily if boiled for a minute and then having a chisel inserted under it.

But even the 220 lasts quite a while if you flatten it regularly. I use a DMT diamond plate, (XC) for flattening, but there are a dozen methods, including rubbing it on a smooth concrete sidewalk. :p
