I attended the Knifemakers guild show in Orlando today, and i saw too many sweet knifes to mention, but one maker really got me interested. Murray Carter is a master bladesmith who lives in Japan (originally from Canada). He uses not only the coolest Japanese blade styles, but Japanese steels. According to him, Japanese steels are much purer than Western steels. His Hitachi steel, compared to any typical Western steel, has 10 times less sulfur and other impurites. The blades look very different, the steel is dark and mysterious, and really really sharp. His most popular items are his kneck knives. I really want one, but don't have the cash at the moment. They start at about $140, and go to over $350 for the hand-forged and damascus. I've got a whole brochure on his stuff if anyone wants more info. Sorry, I don't have any pics and he doens't have a website, but he has an email address:
m_carter-cutlery@pop06.odn.ne.jp, and if you feel like making a phone call to Japan, or fax, I have those numbers as well. Maybe email him if you want a catalogue or pictures?

Glad to see you made it to the show. Good for you.

I think that Murray Carter makes some incredible knives and ones that offer amazing value. As kamkazmoto mentioned, his kitchen knives are superb, but my favorite is his big Muteki camp knife. I also think his Kiridashi is a great little knife.

yeah, i'd like to have a kiridashi. i couldn't imagine anything better for detailed work. and thanks for the bladeart.com tip kamkozmoto!
